An American in Paris and the Origins of the Stereomicroscope

Roux's Archives of Developmental Biology, 1994
A century ago, Horatio S. Greenough, an American living in Paris, persuaded the firm of Carl Zeiss to construct the first low-power stereomicroscope. Fitted by Zeiss with Porro prisms for image erection, this instrument became the ancestor of all stereoscopic dissection microscopes ("binoculars") now in use.

Efficacy of Stereomicroscope as an Aid to Histopathological Diagnosis.

open access: yesJournal of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology, 2014
Grossing and microscopic examination of the received specimens in a histopathological laboratory is a routine procedure for achieving a fi nal diagnosis. Errors in either of the steps may lead to an inaccurate diagnosis since wrong orientation of the specimen may either cause diagnostic delays or pose a diagnostic dilemma.

A Trimming Stage for Stereomicroscopes

Stain Technology, 1980
Scott and Thurston (1975) have described a simple, useful modification of ultratome specimen holders which permits transillumination of plastic embedded specimens for hand trimming.1 We have refined their original concept by fabricating a Lucite chuck-mounting disc which, in addition to allowing transillumination of embedded specimens, may also be ...

Decentering Zoom Lens in Stereomicroscope

International Optical Design Conference 2017, 2017
We can move an entrance pupil of a zoom lens from on-axis to off-axis by decentering lens groups of a zoom lens. This decentering zoom lens makes an objective lens of a stereomicroscope small. As a result, we can develop a stereomicroscope with high magnification and high resolution.
