Detailed Visual Cortical Responses Generated by Retinal Sheet Transplants in Rats with Severe Retinal Degeneration. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
To combat retinal degeneration, healthy fetal retinal sheets have been successfully transplanted into both rodent models and humans, with synaptic connectivity between transplant and degenerated host retina having been confirmed.

Green‐to‐red spectral labeling: A novel polysynaptic retrograde tracing strategy in the marker footprint mouse model

open access: yesAnimal Models and Experimental Medicine, EarlyView.
To compensate for the fluorescence loss in rabies virus–derived neuronal tracing tools caused by non‐cytolytic immune clearance (NCLIC) in retrograde tracing, we developed a novel green‐to‐red spectral labeling (GTR) strategy based on the NCLIC phenomenon and developed a novel marker footprints mouse to support the strategy.

The basal ganglia and thalamus of the long-tailed macaque in stereotaxic coordinates. A template atlas based on coronal, sagittal and horizontal brain sections

open access: yesBrain Structure and Function, 2011
A stereotaxic brain atlas of the basal ganglia and thalamus of Macaca fascicularis presented here is designed with a surgical perspective. In this regard, all coordinates have been referenced to a line linking the anterior and posterior commissures (ac ...

Research advances in dysphagia animal models

open access: yesAnimal Models and Experimental Medicine, EarlyView.
This review systematically summarizes the establishment, evaluation, and detection of dysphagia animal models in stroke, Parkinson's disease (PD), and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) in three kinds of experimental animals (including rodents, nonhuman primates, and other mammals), providing a basis for the selection of appropriate animal models of ...

Cortistain is expressed in a distinct subset of cortical interneurons [PDF]

open access: yes, 1997
Cortistatin is a presumptive neuropeptide that shares 11 of its 14 amino acids with somatostatin. In contrast to somatostatin, administration of cortistatin into the rat brain ventricles specifically enhances slow wave sleep, apparently by antagonizing ...

Bioimaging of sense organs and the central nervous system in extant fishes and reptiles in situ: A review

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Bioimaging of the sense organs and brain of fishes and reptiles. Left panel: 3D reconstruction of the head and brain of the deep‐sea viperfish Chauliodus sloani following diceCT. Right panel: A 3D reconstruction of a 70‐day‐old embryo head of the bearded dragon Pogona vitticeps following diceCT, showing the position of the segmented brain within the ...
