Simulation of reproductive risk and emergence of female reproductive cessation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
Using a simple computer model for evolution, we show that in a sexual population subject only to age-increasing reproductive risk, a cessation of female reproduction emerges.

Sterile Plus Active Neutrinos and Neutrino Oscillations [PDF]

open access: yesInt. J. Theor. Phys. 53 (2014) 3201, 2013
Using a 3 + 1 neutrino model with one sterile and the three standard active neutrinos with a 4x4 unitary transformation matrix, U, relating flavor to mass neutrino states, the probability of $\nu_\mu$ to $\nu_e$ transition is estimated using sterile-active neutrino masses determined by MiniBooNE and other experiments and sterile-active neutrino angles ...

Sterilizing body‐territories: Understanding contemporary cases of forced sterilization in the United States and China

open access: yesFeminist Anthropology
In the summer of 2020, shocking headlines reverberated across global media outlets, revealing harrowing stories of forced sterilizations and reproductive abuses committed against Uighurs in China and immigrant women in the United States. The simultaneity

Dysfunctional tetraspanin 7 (TSP‐7) in Caenorhabditis elegans promotes; increases in average life‐ & health‐span, stress‐induced survival and motility

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The C. elegans tetraspanin‐7 (tsp‐7) is a homologue of human CD63, which is a negative regulator of autophagy. The C. elegans strain, tm5761, has a dysfunctional (knockout) tsp‐7 gene. When compared to the wild‐type strain, the tm5761 strain shows increased: life‐ and health‐span; thermotolerance, and stress‐induced locomotion.

A Prospective Cohort study of determinats in outcome of Tubal Recanalisation

open access: yesBLDE University Journal of Health Sciences, 2020
Introduction: Tubal sterilisation is the most prevalent family planning method practised in our country. According to National Family Health Survey (NFHS 4) (2015-2016) a total of 51.8% of married women use any method of family planning, of which female ...

Specific expression in reproductive tissues and fate of a mitochondrial sterility-associated protein in cytoplasmic male-sterile bean. [PDF]

open access: yesThe Plant Cell, 1995
In common bean, cytoplasmic male sterility has been associated with a unique sequence found in the mitochondrial genome, designated pvs (for Phaseolus vulgaris sterility sequence). Within the pvs sequence, two open reading frames are encoded, ORF98 and ORF239.

KCS1 and VIP1, the genes encoding yeast phosphoinositol pyrophosphate synthases, are required for Ca2+‐mediated response to dimethylsulfoxide (DMSO)

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Ca2+‐mediated response to DMSO was investigated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae cells expressing Ca2+‐dependent aequorin. Cell exposure to DMSO induced a cytosolic Ca2+ wave dependent on the integrity of the Cch1/Mid1 channel. Deletion of KCS1 or VIP1 genes encoding the phosphoinositol pyrophosphate (PP‐IP) synthases suppressed the DMSO‐induced Ca2 ...

Neutrino Oscillations With Two Sterile Neutrinos [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
This work estimates the probability of $\mu$ to $e$ neutrino oscillation with two sterile neutrinos using a 5x5 U-matrix, an extension of the previous estimate with one sterile neutrino and a 4x4 U-matrix. The sterile neutrino-active neutrino mass differences and the mixing angles of the two sterile neutrinos with the three active neutrinos are taken ...

Reproductive Strategies of Aedes albopictus (Diptera: Culicidae) and Implications for the Sterile Insect Technique [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2013
Male insects are expected to optimize their reproductive strategy according to the availability of sperm or other ejaculatory materials, and to the availability and reproductive status of females. Here, we investigated the reproductive strategy and sperm management of male and virgin female Aedes albopictus, a mosquito vector of chikungunya and dengue ...

RhoA and Rac1 as Mechanotransduction Mediators in Colorectal Cancer

open access: yesAdvanced Biology, EarlyView.
Analysing RhoA and Rac1 protein levels in Colorectal cancer (CRC) samples under mechanical strain highlights their potential as diagnostic markers. Monitoring their activity could offer valuable insights into how cancer spreads, paving the way for new approaches to better understand and diagnose colorectal cancer.
