Prophylactic Dexmedetomidine Reduces Junctional Ectopic Tachycardia and Facilitates Postoperative Recovery in Pediatric Cardiac Surgery: A Systematic Review and Meta‐Analysis of Prospective Trials

open access: yesPediatric Anesthesia, Volume 36, Issue 7, Page 767-777, July 2026.
ABSTRACT Objective To evaluate the efficacy and safety of prophylactic dexmedetomidine in preventing Junctional Ectopic Tachycardia (JET) and its impact on postoperative recovery in pediatric congenital heart surgery, restricting analysis to prospective trials. Methods We systematically searched PubMed, Scopus, and CENTRAL through October 16, 2025, for

Glucagon‐Like Peptide‐1 Agonist vs. Placebo and Pulmonary Decline After Open‐Heart Surgery: A Substudy of the GLORIOUS Randomised Clinical Trial

open access: yesActa Anaesthesiologica Scandinavica, Volume 70, Issue 6, July 2026.
ABSTRACT Background Postoperative pulmonary decline is an established complication of open‐heart surgery extending beyond the immediate postoperative phase. Inflammation‐mediated lung damage and ischaemia‐reperfusion injury secondary to extracorporeal circulation is a proposed pathophysiological driver. GLP‐1 receptor agonists (GLP‐1RA) have emerged as

‘You can't have an ego in this game’: A simulation primed qualitative inquiry of team reflection in paediatrics

open access: yesMedical Education, Volume 60, Issue 7, Page 782-791, July 2026.
Abstract Introduction Acute care paediatric teams face ambiguous, dynamic patient care situations that demand adaptability to avoid patient harm. Team huddles and adaptation processes have shown promise in mitigating risk and reducing harm. One team process that may occur in huddles is team reflection (TR), defined as a team's capacity to consciously ...

The effect of continuous bilateral parasternal block with lidocaine on patient-controlled analgesia opioid requirement and recovery after open heart surgery: a double-blind randomised controlled trial

open access: yesBJA Open
Background: We hypothesised that a continuous 72-h bilateral parasternal infusion of lidocaine at 2×35 mg h−1 would decrease pain and the inflammatory response after sternotomy for open heart surgery, subsequently improving quality of recovery.

Comparison of straight median sternotomy and interlocking sternotomy with respect to biomechanical stability

open access: yesWorld Journal of Orthopedics, 2013
To increase the stability of sternotomy and so decrease the complications because of instability.Tests were performed on 20 fresh sheep sterna which were isolated from the sterno-costal joints of the ribs. Median straight and interlocking sternotomies were performed on 10 sterna each, set as groups 1 and 2, respectively.
