Steroid 21-sulfatase activity in human placenta
Journal of Steroid Biochemistry, 1983Intravenously administered [3H]-deoxycorticosterone sulfate is not metabolized by way of deoxycorticosterone in men or non-pregnant women. Thus, it can be implied that steroid 21-sulfatase is not active in human tissues. On the other hand, evidence has accrued that deoxycorticosterone sulfate is hydrolyzed in human placenta.

Frequency of steroid sulfatase deficiency in Hiroshima
Pediatrics International, 2007A retrospective survey was performed between 1983 and 1995 to determine the frequency of steroid sulfatase (STS) deficiency in Hiroshima. Males with ichthyosis were diagnosed enzymatically. During 1979-95 in Hiroshima Prefecture, 275,943 males were born and 28 had STS deficiency. The observed frequency of STS deficiency was 1 per 9855 males. Therefore,

Aromatase and steroid sulfatase from human placenta
2023Cytochrome P450 aromatase (AROM) and steroid (estrone (E1)/dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA)) sulfatase (STS) are the two key enzymes responsible for the biosynthesis of estrogens in human, and maintenance of the critical balance between androgens and estrogens.

Associated Steroid-Sulfatase Deficiency
1989Occasionally, X-linked recessive ichthyosis is accompanied by other symptoms such as mental retardation, short stature, epilepsy, and severe hypogonadism. Until very recently, these cases were mostly classified under the diagnostic label of the so-called Rud syndrome [16] (see Sect.

Steroidal and Nonsteroidal Sulfamates as Potent Inhibitors of Steroid Sulfatase
Journal of Medicinal Chemistry, 1998Synthetic routes to potent steroidal and nonsteroidal sulfamate-based active site-directed inhibitors of the enzyme steroid sulfatase, a topical target in the treatment of postmenopausal women with hormone-dependent breast cancer, are described. Novel compounds were examined for estrone sulfatase (E1-STS) inhibition in intact MCF-7 breast cancer cells ...

Characterization of rat and human steroid sulfatases
Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Protein Structure and Molecular Enzymology, 1989Rat and human steroid sulfatases were purified from liver and placenta, respectively, by the same procedure. The rat and human enzymes were solubilized with Triton X-100, and purified by immunoaffinity chromatography with a monoclonal antibody showing high binding activities to both the enzymes.

Steroid sulfotransferases and steroid sulfate sulfatases: characteristics and biological roles
Canadian Journal of Biochemistry and Cell Biology, 1985This review discusses the biological roles of steroid sulfotransferase enzymes (ST's) and steroid sulfate sulfohydrolases (sulfatases) mainly in mammalian tissues. In addition, some consideration is given to certain characteristics of these enzymes and, where possible, to their biological control. A considerable number of ST's of varying specificities,
