Stick‐slip in the presence of a normal vibration

AbstractThis paper presents a dynamic analysis of a contact system subjected to an applied normal vibration. The tangential motion of the system is found to exhibit stick‐slip behaviour dependent on the applied vibration, even in the absence of a difference in static and kinetic friction or a negative gradient in the friction‐velocity relation.

Control of Stick-Slip Vibrations

Many technical applications are subjected to friction induced vibrations. These vibrations are mostly unwanted as they generate noise, increase wear and diminish accuracy. In this paper a feedback control is introduced that is capable to suppress these oscillations. The results are validated experimentally on a squealing brake.

Abstract An analysis is presented of the response of a randomly excited beam with an axial stick-slip end condition. The emphasis of the present effort is on the case in which slipping is a relatively rare event so that, while it does not contribute significantly to the system damping, it does have a marked influence on the non-linear behaviour.

Dynamics of a Simple Damped Oscillator Undergoing Stick-Slip Vibrations
