The Draft Genome of the Invasive Walking Stick, Medauroidea extradendata, Reveals Extensive Lineage-Specific Gene Family Expansions of Cell Wall Degrading Enzymes in Phasmatodea. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Plant cell wall components are the most abundant macromolecules on Earth. The study of the breakdown of these molecules is thus a central question in biology.

When Giant Stick Insects Play With Colors: Molecular Phylogeny of the Achriopterini and Description of Two New Splendid Species (Phasmatodea: Achrioptera) From Madagascar

open access: yesFrontiers in Ecology and Evolution, 2019
Achrioptera is a taxon of extremely large and exceptionally colorful stick insects endemic to Madagascar and the Comoros Archipelago. We study the phylogenetic position of the Achriopterini, comprising the genera Achrioptera and Glawiana, based on a ...

Functional Materials for Environmental Energy Harvesting in Smart Agriculture via Triboelectric Nanogenerators

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This review explores functional and responsive materials for triboelectric nanogenerators (TENGs) in sustainable smart agriculture. It examines how particulate contamination and dirt affect charge transfer and efficiency. Environmental challenges and strategies to enhance durability and responsiveness are outlined, including active functional layers ...

Assembling large genomes: analysis of the stick insect (Clitarchus hookeri) genome reveals a high repeat content and sex-biased genes associated with reproduction

open access: yesBMC Genomics, 2017
Background Stick insects (Phasmatodea) have a high incidence of parthenogenesis and other alternative reproductive strategies, yet the genetic basis of reproduction is poorly understood.

pH‐Tunable Material Properties of Glycine‐Rich Condensates from Tick Bioadhesive

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This work studies the influence of pH on the phase separation behavior of a disordered glycine‐rich protein found in tick bioadhesive. The results show profound impact on the propensity of coacervation, condensate microstructure and viscosity, amphiphilicity of the peptides, and effective encapsulation of therapeutic molecules.

Dead element replicating: degenerate R2 element replication and rDNA genomic turnover in the Bacillus rossius stick insect (Insecta: Phasmida). [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2015
R2 is an extensively investigated non-LTR retrotransposon that specifically inserts into the 28S rRNA gene sequences of a wide range of metazoans, disrupting its functionality.

A role of corazonin receptor in larval-pupal transition and pupariation in the oriental fruit fly Bactrocera dorsalis (Hendel) (Diptera: Tephritidae) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Corazonin (Crz) is a neuropeptide hormone, but also a neuropeptide modulator that is internally released within the CNS, and it has a widespread distribution in insects with diverse physiological functions.
