Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

A methionine‐lined active site governs carbocation stabilization and product specificity in a bacterial terpene synthase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals a unique active site enriched in methionine residues and demonstrates that these residues play a critical role by stabilizing carbocation intermediates through novel sulfur–cation interactions. Structure‐guided mutagenesis further revealed variants with significantly altered product profiles, enhancing pseudopterosin formation. These

Partitioning Techniques and Their Parallelization for Stiff System of Ordinary Differential Equations [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
A new code based on variable order and variable stepsize component wise partitioning is introduced to solve a system of equations dynamically. In previous partitioning technique researches, once an equation is identified as stiff, it will remain in ...

Valosin‐containing protein counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its ATPase activity in vitro

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.

Approximate equations for circular hinge stiffnesses

open access: yesTransactions of the JSME (in Japanese), 2023
Flexure hinges are widely used for very high precision mechanisms, such as a high precision linear guide, a nano positioning stage, a robot hand and etc., because of no gap and no friction. Regarding circular hinge stiffnesses, Paros and Weisbord derived exact solutions, but they are unwieldly because of the complexity.

Diversity and complexity in neural organoids

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Neural organoid research aims to expand genetic diversity on one side and increase tissue complexity on the other. Chimeroids integrate multiple donor genomes within single organoids. Self‐organising multi‐identity organoids, exogenous cell seeding, or enforced assembly of region‐specific organoids contribute to tissue complexity.

Anisotropic neutron stars in $R^2$ gravity

open access: yes, 2018
We consider static neutron stars within the framework of $R^2$ gravity. The neutron fluid is described by three different types of realistic equations of state (soft, moderately stiff, and stiff).

Explicit Methods for Stiff Stochastic Differential Equations [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Multiscale differential equations arise in the modeling of many important problems in the science and engineering. Numerical solvers for such problems have been extensively studied in the deterministic case. Here, we discuss numerical methods for (mean-square stable) stiff stochastic differential equations. Standard explicit methods, as for example the

Linking neurogenesis, oligodendrogenesis, and myelination defects to neurodevelopmental disruption in primary mitochondrial disorders

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Mitochondrial remodeling shapes neural and glial lineage progression by matching metabolic supply with demand. Elevated OXPHOS supports differentiation and myelin formation, while myelin compaction lowers mitochondrial dependence, revealing mitochondria as key drivers of developmental energy adaptation.

Towards Numerical Method-Informed Neural Networks for PDE Learning

open access: yesMathematics
Solving stiff partial differential equations with neural networks remains challenging due to the presence of multiple time scales and numerical instabilities that arise during training. This paper addresses these limitations by embedding the mathematical
