A hybrid method for stiff reaction–diffusion equations

open access: yesDiscrete and Continuous Dynamical Systems - B, 2019
The second-order implicit integration factor method (IIF2) is effective at solving stiff reaction-diffusion equations owing to its nice stability condition. IIF has previously been applied primarily to systems in which the reaction contained no explicitly time-dependent terms and the boundary conditions were homogeneous.

Electron transfer between complexes III and IV in S. cerevisiae mitochondrial membranes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Mitochondrial oxidative phosphorylation in S. cerevisiae mitoplasts is limited by complex IV catalytic capacity, rather than two‐dimensional cytochrome c diffusion. At physiological cytochrome c : supercomplex ratios at salinity equivalent to that of 20 mm monovalent salt, activity is maximized, indicating that this low ionic strength accurately mimics

Error estimates for a stiff differential equation procedure [PDF]

open access: yesMathematics of Computation, 1977
For numerical procedures which solve stiff systems of ordinary differential equations there are problems associated with estimating the local error. In this paper an analysis based on the linear model y

Salmonella lipopolysaccharide‐containing supported lipid bilayers as platforms to study bacteriophage interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present robust protocols for the preparation of supported lipid bilayers (SLBs) incorporating either Salmonella smooth LPS or outer membrane vesicles (OMVs). We use a combination of quartz crystal microbalance with dissipation (QCM‐D) and fluorescence microscopy to both characterize the SLBs of various compositions and to probe their interactions ...

Microbiome−host proteostasis crosstalk—An emerging perspective on mechanisms and interventions toward healthy longevity

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Proteostasis and the gut microbiota play a key role in shaping host physiology. Microbiota‐derived metabolites, vitamins, and RNA modulate host proteostasis. Findings from model systems, including C. elegans, indicate microbes can either stabilize or disrupt host proteostasis.

Three phosphatase families form a community: The phosphohydrolases that act upon inositol pyrophosphates

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Inositol pyrophosphates are energy‐rich signaling molecules that perform critical functions in cells. Three different families of phosphatases hydrolyze the β phosphate of the inositol pyrophosphate molecules: two have narrow specificities and one is promiscuous.

Exploring the Performance of Some Efficient Explicit Numerical Methods with Good Stability Properties for Huxley’s Equation

open access: yesMathematics
Four explicit numerical schemes are collected, which are stable and efficient for the diffusion equation. Using these diffusion solvers, several new methods are constructed for the nonlinear Huxley’s equation.

ABL kinase‐dependent phosphorylation of SH proteins promotes their direct interaction with CRK family SH2 domains

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
CT10 regulator of kinase (CRK) and CRK‐Like (CRKL) are signaling adaptors driving cell adhesion, motility, differentiation, and proliferation. SH2‐domain containing (SH) proteins are enriched in YXXP motifs which when phosphorylated create preferred binding sites for CRK family SH2 domains.

Systematic Investigation of the Explicit, Dynamically Consistent Methods for Fisher’s Equation

open access: yesComputation
We systematically investigate the performance of numerical methods to solve Fisher’s equation, which contains a linear diffusion term and a nonlinear logistic term.
