Ovaling of Ring‐Stiffened Cylindrical Shells
Journal of Engineering Mechanics, 1990The ovaling behavior of a ring‐stiffened thin‐walled cylinder subjected to a static circumferentially varying pressure load is explained, and some useful approximate solutions are obtained. The important effects due to the presence of ring stiffeners are: (1) The load transferred to the stiffeners by the shell; and (2) the ovaling‐induced membrane ...

Stiffened Spherical Shell with Cutout
2016In this chapter, free vibration characteristics of laminated composite stiffened spherical shells with cutouts are studied using finite element method employing eight-noded curved quadratic isoparametric element for shell with three-noded curved beam element for stiffener formulation.

Stiffened Hypar Shell with Cutout
2016Free vibration characteristics of stiffened composite hypar shell (hyperbolic paraboloidal shells bounded by straight edges) in the presence of cutout are considered following a generalized finite element formulation using eight-noded curved quadratic isoparametric element for shell with a three-noded beam element for stiffener. The size of the cutouts

VIBRATION CHARACTERISTICS OF A STIFFENED CONICAL SHELL
Journal of Sound and Vibration, 1996Abstract This paper is concerned with the free vibrations of a stiffened conical thin shell within the context of Donnell-Mushtari theory. A truncated cone with simply supported ends is reinforced by relatively closely spaced elastic stringers and/or rings. The tapered stringers are used to obtain an efficient stiffening.

Genetic optimization of stiffened plates and shells
International Journal for Numerical Methods in Engineering, 2001AbstractThis work gives two examples of application of stochastic techniques for the optimization of stiffened plates or shells. The research strategy consists in substituting, for finite‐element calculations in the optimization process, an approximate response of a neural network, or an approximate response from the Ritz method.

Discontinuity Stresses in Stiffened Cylindrical Shells
Aircraft Engineering and Aerospace Technology, 1959THIN cylindrical shells stiffened at intervals along their length by internal frames or bulkheads are often used in fuselage design. When such shells are pressurized or heated, expansion of the shell results and, unless the subsequent deformations of shell and stiffeners are equal, discontinuity stresses are induced in the region of the shell‐stiffener

Stiffened Hyperbolic Paraboloid Shell with Cutout
2016This chapter considers dynamic characteristics of stiffened composite hyperbolic paraboloid shell panel with cutout under free vibration in terms of natural frequency and mode shapes. Finite element method is used for the analysis by combining an eight-noded curved shell element with a three-noded curved beam element.
