A polyphasic study of four Stigonematales cyanobacteria from tropical Australia (Queensland) revealed production of the hepatotoxins microcystins (MC-LR, MC-LA, MC-LF, MC-FR and demethyl-MC-LR) by Fischerella sp. NQAIF311 isolated from a seasonal creek. Total microcystin content reached 43 μg g(-1) dry weight.

Microcystin-la from a blue-green alga belonging to the stigonematales
Phytochemistry, 1992Abstract Microcystin-LA accounts for the protein phosphatase (types 1, 2A and 3) inhibitory activity of the terrestrial blue-green alga Hapalosiphon hibernicus BZ-3-1.

N2-fixing heterocystous cyanobacteria have been shown to hold a suite of unique glycolipids, so-called heterocyst glycolipids (HGs), as part of the heterocyst cell envelope. It was also demonstrated that the distribution of these components bears a high level of chemotaxonomic information, which allows distinguishing heterocystous cyanobacteria of the ...

Annotated list of Cyanoprokaryota from Murmansk Region. III. Nostocales, Stigonematales
Novosti sistematiki nizshikh rastenii, 2010The results of studies of Cyanoprokariota (Cyanophyta, Cyanobacteria) of the Murmansk Region are presented. The list of Nostocales contains 73 species and that of Stigonematales — 8 species. 8 species are reported as new records for Murmansk Region.

The paper describes the morphology and reproduction of a new species of Symphyonemopsis viz. S. pantii n. sp. isolated from enrichment cultures of a soil sample collected from the campus of Sangeet Samiti, Allahabad (India). Thalli grow as dark blue-green, small, wooly patches on soil surface but as cushion-like growths on agar plates.

SUMMARYThe morphology and phylogeny of 13 strains of a thermophilic cyanobacterium, Mastigocladus laminosus Cohn, isolated from hot springs in Japan and Myanmar were analyzed to determine taxonomy and biogeography. From the morphological observations of cell size, there were significant differences among strains. Phylogenetic analyses based on 16S rRNA

Abstract The morphology, ecology, life cycles, ultrastructure and sequences of the 16S rRNA gene of four cyanobacteria strains from different localities putatively identified as Mastigocladus laminosus were studied. Our strains fall into three separate clades, and conclusions based on “classical” taxonomical methods correspond with conclusions based on

The information about the diversity of representatives of the order Stigonematales Geitler in the flora of Ukraine are analyzed in the light of modern ideas about the taxonomy, ecology, phylogeny and position of the true branching forms in the system of heterocystous cyanoprocaryotes.

Fylogeneze sinic tvořících heterocyty (Nostocales a Stigonematales)
200816S rDNA sequences from 23 heterocytous cyanobacteria were obtained and phylogenetic tree from these sequences and sequences available in the GenBank was constructed. Relationships between traditional taxonomy and phylogenetic clusters were discussed.
