Synthesis of boron carbide reinforced aluminum castings through mechanical stir casting

Journal of Composite Materials, 2021
Nuclear energy is the leading clean energy source in the United States with 99 nuclear power plants generating approximately 20% of the country’s electricity. While the growth of the industry helps to reduce our reliance on fossil fuels, there is also an increase in nuclear waste.

Conventional stir casting versus ultrasonic assisted stir casting process: Mechanical and physical characteristics of AMCs

Journal of Alloys and Compounds, 2019
Abstract In this study, aluminum matrix composites (AMCs) were developed using two different techniques, conventional stir casting and ultrasonic assisted stir casting. The drawbacks of the conventional stir casting technique were eliminated by employing an alternative process to produce the composite, wherein ultrasonic energy was introduced into ...

Electromagnetic Stirring in Continuous-Casting Machines

Steel in Translation, 2019
Abstract—Industrial continuous casting machines in Russia mainly employ imported electromagnetic-stirring systems located outside the mold. In case of breakage, the stators of such stirreres must be sent back to the manufacturer for repair. To decrease import dependence, an electromagnetic-stirring system that may be completely dismantled has been ...

Electromagnetic stirring for continuous casting

Revue de Métallurgie, 2003
The multiple versions of electromagnetic stirring in continuous casting are described. For long products, linear or rotational stirring appears confusing, but is clarified based on liquid steel flow pattern and metallurgical results. Rotational mould stirring is the predominant application in billet casting.

Stirring phenomena in centrifugal casting of pipes

Applied Scientific Research, 1987

Solute redistribution in stir-cast Al-6Cu

Journal of Materials Science, 1989
The solute distribution in stir-cast Al-6 wt % Cu alloy is more uniform than that in the conventionally cast (unstirred) alloy, solidified at the same cooling rate. The Bower-Brody-Flemings model of microsegregation was modified to take account of convective interdendritic (or intercellular) solute transport in the liquid.

Effect of Stir Casting Parameters on Properties of Cast Metal Matrix Composite

Materials Today: Proceedings, 2020
Abstract In the current investigation, aluminium matrix composite (AMC) was successfully fabricated by liquid melt method and the effect of stir casting (SC) parameters namely Temperature (Temperature), Stir Speed S (SS) and Stir Time (ST) on the properties was studied using Taguchi L9 orthogonal array experimental design.

Friction stir welding of aluminium casting alloys

Welding International, 2013
The results of testing friction stir welding quality in relation to EN AC-43200 (AK9) and EN AC-45000 (AK64) aluminium casting alloys are presented. The test joints were made with the use of a welding machine constructed on the basis of numerically controlled milling machines.

Friction Stir Processing of Cast NiAl Bronze

Materials Science Forum, 2007
Friction stir processing (FSP) of cast NiAl bronze has resulted in significant increases in properties including more than doubling the yield greater that 40 percent increase in the threshold fatigue life; all achieved while increasing ductility. These and other strength, greater than a 60 percent increase in tensile strength, and property improvements

Wear loss of stir cast aluminium alloy 8011

Materials Today: Proceedings, 2020
Abstract The dry sliding wear loss behavior of AA 8011 matrix composite manufactured by stir casting process was considered. A regression model was established to predict the wear loss of the prepared composite. The wear test was steered with pin-on-disc apparatus with the controlling three-factor, three-level central composite rotatable design ...
