IoT based stir casting system of aluminium MMC
Materials Today: Proceedings, 2021Abstract In present days, an Internet of Things (IoT) based smart industry was established for casting sections that produces the different components in automobile, construction, railways and shipping. The effect of casting parameters and their performances on quality were analyzed through collected data from the system. A monitoring system has been

Turbulent flow and solidification: stir-cast microstructure
Metal Science, 1978AbstractA model for turbulent flow is invoked to explain the variation in particle dimension with stirring rate for Al-Cu alloys solidified under violent agitation. Crystal multiplication is explained by a bending, recrystallization, and boundary melting mechanism which is related to the hydrodynamics of the turbulent regime.

In-mold electromagnetic stirring in continuous casting
IEEE Transactions on Industry Applications, 2001To get the optimal operation of in-mold electromagnetic stirring through the fundamental characteristics, a three-dimensional magnetohydrodynamic calculation model was used, taking into consideration heat transfer and solidification as well as free surface. Comparison between measured velocity and calculated velocity is in agreement.

Friction-stir welding of cast aluminum alloys
Electrical MetallurgyThe study results of the mechanical properties and structure of cast aluminum alloy joints made by friction-stir welding (FSW) are presented. The processes of intense plastic deformation in FSW have influence on the formation of the microstructure of a weld seam, on which its strength properties depend, however, the determining factor is the ...

Stir casting & processing of aluminum matrix composites
AIP Conference Proceedings, 2019Aluminium Matrix Composites have potential applications in Aerospace and Automotive industries. Their light weight structure, high corrosion resistance and superior mechanical properties make them a choice candidate in higher end applications. Aluminiummatrix composites materials can be produced by many different techniques.

Magnetic Stirring in Horizontal Continuous Casting
2001For the horizontal continuous casting process, the flow field, the temperature distribution and the formation of the shell are analysed by means of a finite-element solution of the Navier-Stokes and the energy equations for axisymmetric laminar flow.

Design and Development of Hybrid Stir Casting Process
International Journal of Applied Industrial Engineering, 2012The widespread adoption of particulate metal matrix composites (MMCs) for engineering applications has been hindered by the high cost of producing components of complex shape. Casting technology may be the key to overcoming this problem with stir casting. But the problem arises with stir casting is wettability and porosity.

Electromagnetic stirring for continuous casting - Part 2
Revue de Métallurgie, 2003The multiple versions of electromagnetic stirring in continuous casting are described. For long products, linear or rotational stirring appears confusing, but is clarified based on liquid steel flow pattern and metallurgical results. Rotational mould stirring is the predominant application.

Dual In-Mold Electromagnetic Stirring in Continuous Casting
IEEE Transactions on Magnetics, 2004We evaluate an effect of the dual in-mold electromagnetic stirring (M-EMS) which is arranged in series to control the molten steel velocity distribution using magnetohydrodynamic calculation. A stirring force ratio (SFR) defined as F/sub u//F/sub l/ where F/sub u/ is an electromagnetic force of upper M-EMS and F/sub l/ is the one of the lower M-EMS is ...

Friction Stir Welding of Magnesium Die Castings
2016Friction stir welding (FSW), being a solid-state process, is an attractive method for joining magnesium die castings. In this study, FSW of AZ91D and AM50A plates was performed both on the individual alloys and to join them together. The welds were sound and free from defects, except for small surface cracks in AM50A; a fine microstructure ...
