Size limits for Stirling cycle refrigerators and cryocoolers

IECEC-97 Proceedings of the Thirty-Second Intersociety Energy Conversion Engineering Conference (Cat. No.97CH6203), 1997
This paper explores the lower size limit placed on regenerative coolers by thermodynamics and heat transfer. Information derived in this paper has direct relevance to the development of small-scale refrigerators and cryocoolers that are based on standard gas cycles employing regeneration.

Stirling cryocooler prognostics and health management (PHM)

2009 IEEE AUTOTESTCON, 2009
Tactical Stirling cryocoolers are life-limited components used in many IR sensing systems. Thousands are deployed in commercial and military systems. Using prognostics to predict impending failures will allow cryocooler replacement when it is convenient and cost-effective, rather than during system operation. This both reduces cost and improves mission

Optimization Zone on the Performance of a Generalized Irreversible Magnetic Stirling Cryocooler

Open Systems & Information Dynamics, 2001
Finite time thermodynamic performance of a generalized irreversible magnetic Stirling cryocooler coupled to constant-temperature heat reservoirs has been analyzed in this paper. The relationship between the optimal cooling load and the coefficient of performance for the magnetic Stirling cryocooler is derived.

Optimization of cold head for miniature Stirling cryocooler

AIP Conference Proceedings, 2002
Small capacity Stirling cryocoolers for space-borne applications generally use linear electromagnetic drives (also called linear motors) for long life, maintenance free operation and high reliability. Such motors are normally of moving coil type. The performance prediction of such miniature Stirling cryocoolers is very critical and is governed by ...
