Performance enhancement of linear stirling cryocoolers

SPIE Proceedings, 2000
Performance and reliability parameters of the AIM Stirling coolers have been presented in several previous publications. This paper focuses on recent developments at AIM for the COP improvement of cryocoolers in IR-detectors and systems applications. Improved COP of cryocoolers is a key for optimized form factors, weight and reliability.

Diaphragm Stirling cryocooler developments

Cryogenics, 1992
This paper reports on the status of several ongoing development programs aimed at the demonstration of diaphragm Stirling cycle cryocooler performance. Key attributes of this technology focus on long reliable operating life and excellent efficiency, making it a candidate for cooling of satellite-borne long wavelength sensors for astrophysics and earth ...

Stirling-cycle cryocooler active vibration control

Proceedings of IEEE International Conference on Control and Applications, 2002
A cryogenic cooler capable of continuously maintaining the required cryogenic temperature is one of the critical elements enabling space-borne surveillance sensors to detect cold objects against a space background or warm objects against an Earth background.

Failure analysis of the space Stirling cryocoolers

The Proceedings of 2011 9th International Conference on Reliability, Maintainability and Safety, 2011
With extensive application of infrared detective techniques, Stirling cryocooler, used as an active cooling source, has gained a good chance to prosper because of its special advantages, such as the variability of cooling capacity, compact configuration and non-sensitivity for the satellite attitude.

Optimum performance of an irreversible Stirling cryocooler

International Journal of Ambient Energy, 1999
SYNOPSIS An irreversible simplified model for a Stirling cryocooler is presented in this paper. This model takes into account the finite-rate heat transfer, finite-time evolution of the cycle's regenerative processes and the friction irreversibility. The maximum cooling load and the corresponding coefficient of performance (COP) at the maximum cooling ...

Vibration reduction for stirling cryocooler system

Advances in Optical and Mechanical Technologies for Telescopes and Instrumentation IV, 2020
We undertake to build a new cross dispersed infrared spectrograph, whose design is a heritage of IGRINS, will be deployed at Gemini Telescope as facility instrument (IGRINS II). The Sunpower Cryotel GT cryocooler may be replaced with the current GM cooler in the future.

Optimization of irreversible magnetic Stirling cryocoolers

International Journal of Engineering Science, 2001
Abstract This paper presents a model of irreversible magnetic Stirling (MST) cryocooler using paramagnetic material as the working substance. The relation between optimal cooling load and the coefficient of performance (COP), the maximum cooling load and the corresponding COP, as well as the maximum COP and the corresponding cooling load of an ...

Modular approach to spaceborne stirling cryocoolers

Cryogenics, 1994
Abstract Lockheed has advanced a family of spaceborne Cryocoolers based on the split Stirling cycletechnology developed at Oxford University. The designs use flexure supports, clearance gaps, and modular use of a dynamic balancer for the compressor and/or displacer.

The effect of operating parameters in the Stirling cryocooler

Cryogenics, 2002
This paper presents design, manufacturing process and test results in the optimum operating condition for the free piston free displacer (FPFD) type Stirling cryocooler designed and manufactured by Korea Institute of Machinery and Materials. FPFD Stirling cryocooler is currently under development for cooling infrared detector.
