Anatomy of the Stirling Engine Cycle

Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Part C: Journal of Mechanical Engineering Science, 1993
Conditions are isolated for thermodynamic processes in two Stirling cycle machines to be identical. The conditions form the basis for the concept of ‘functional similarity’. Using the similarity conditions the designer may scale the detailed gas circuit specification of a viable Stirling engine to a derivative design of different size, crankshaft ...

The Stirling Cycle as a Linear Wave Phenomenon

Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Part C: Journal of Mechanical Engineering Science, 1989
The exchanger system of the Stirling cycle machine is modelled as some hundreds of wave-reflection sites representing the flow area discontinuities of individual tube transitions and regenerator gauzes. The methods of linear, inviscid, one-dimensional wave theory permit pressure and velocity to be predicted over a complete cycle in function of time ...

External combustion engine with Stirling open cycle

Proceedings of the 24th Intersociety Energy Conversion Engineering Conference, 2003
An open-cycle engine approximating the Stirling cycle but retaining external combustion is being developed. The Stirling engine is being built on a motorcycle V-engine; however, the heat exchangers have been designed from scratch. Some thermodynamic considerations justifying the use of the open cycle are presented.

Hybrid Stirling/Otto Cycle for CCHP

Volume 1: Advances in Solar Buildings and Conservation; Climate Control and the Environment; Alternate Fuels and Infrastructure; ARPA-E; Combined Energy Cycles, CHP, CCHP, and Smart Grids; Concentrating Solar Power; Economic, Environmental, and Policy Aspects of Alternate Energy; Geothermal Energy, Harvesting, Ocean Energy and Other Emerging Technologies; Hydrogen Energy Technologies; Low/Zero Emission Power Plants and Carbon Sequestration; Micro and Nano Technology Applications and Materials, 2015
The use of a novel thermodynamic cycle combined with a high efficiency expander and compressor provides a unique product opportunity for residential, commercial and industrial Combined Cooling, Heating and Power (CCHP) applications. The cycle can be described as a combination between a Stirling Cycle and an Otto Cycle with isothermal compression ...

Triple-Expansion Stirling-Cycle Refrigerator

1971
Among the advantages of the Stirling-cycle refrigerator are its compactness and the fact that it lends itself well to miniaturization. For instance, 0.5 W of refrigeration at 77°K has been obtained with a 25-W input and a total weight, including the drive motor and the heat exchanger, of 5 lb.

Simulation of Stirling engine working cycle

2007
This paper describes model of Stirling machines. The model will be used for optimalization of power station. The power station consists of Stirling engine and electric generator. The genetic algorithms can be used for identification parameters of engine.

The Potential of the Stirling Cycle Heat Pump

Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Part A: Journal of Power Engineering, 1989
An important potential application of the electrically driven Stirling cycle heat pump is in the field of industrial waste heat recovery. Here the temperatures and temperature lifts required are often outside the scope of existing types of heat pump.

Precision temperature control of Stirling-cycle cryocoolers

SPIE Proceedings, 1994
Linear-drive Stirling-cycle cryocoolers designed with non contacting parts are ideal for long-life cryogenic cooling applications. These cryocoolers are light weight, have an almost unbounded operational life, and require no expensive ground handling equipment or procedures. One of the challenges in applying these refrigerators to sensitive instruments

Thermodynamic Design of Stirling Cycle Machines

Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Part C: Journal of Mechanical Engineering Science, 1987
When local, instantaneous departures from ideal reversible behaviour are evaluated in terms of the entropy generation rate, the differential equations describing the unsteady processes in the Stirling cycle machine give way to steady flow forms. A simple multiplication by To gives immediately the local, instantaneous rate of loss of available work ...
