We study stochastic choice as the outcome of deliberate randomization. We derive a general representation of a stochastic choice function where stochasticity allows the agent to achieve from any set the maximal element according to her underlying preferences over lotteries.

Stochastic Diagonalization [PDF]
Conventional Quantum Monte Carlo methods, routinely used to compute properties of many-body quantum systems, often suffer from what has been termed 'minus-sip'' problems. These problems are shown to result from an elementary property of the Hamiltonian and the use of stochastic (Markovian) simulation methods to compute physical quantities.

Stochastic superoptimization [PDF]
We formulate the loop-free binary superoptimization task as a stochastic search problem. The competing constraints of transformation correctness and performance improvement are encoded as terms in a cost function, and a Markov Chain Monte Carlo sampler is used to rapidly explore the space of all possible programs to find one that is an optimization of ...

Local linear modelling of the conditional distribution function for functional ergodic data
The focus of functional data analysis has been mostly on independent functional observations. It is therefore hoped that the present contribution will provide an informative account of a useful approach that merges the ideas of the ergodic theory and ...

Stochastic Multiresonance [PDF]
We present a class of systems for which the signal-to-noise ratio as a function of the noise level may display a multiplicity of maxima. This phenomenon, referred to as stochastic multiresonance, indicates the possibility that periodic signals may be enhanced at multiple values of the noise level, instead of at a single value which has occurred in ...

Bayesian model selection (BMS) and Bayesian model justifiability analysis (BMJ) provide a statistically rigorous framework for comparing competing models through the use of Bayesian model evidence (BME).

Multiple-point statistics algorithms allow modeling spatial variability from training images. Among these techniques, the Direct Sampling (DS) algorithm has advanced capabilities, such as multivariate simulations, treatment of non-stationarity, multi ...
