Salmonella lipopolysaccharide‐containing supported lipid bilayers as platforms to study bacteriophage interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present robust protocols for the preparation of supported lipid bilayers (SLBs) incorporating either Salmonella smooth LPS or outer membrane vesicles (OMVs). We use a combination of quartz crystal microbalance with dissipation (QCM‐D) and fluorescence microscopy to both characterize the SLBs of various compositions and to probe their interactions ...

From mice to humans—divergent strategies for intestinal homeostasis and regeneration

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Recent advances such as organoid genome editing, xenotransplantation, imaging, and whole‐genome sequencing have enabled direct studies of human intestinal stem cells (ISCs). These studies reveal species‐specific features, including slower ISC proliferation, distinct injury responses, slower somatic mutation accumulation in humans, and an inverse ...

Machine Learning-Based Damage Diagnosis in Floating Wind Turbines Using Vibration Signals: A Lab-Scale Study Under Different Wind Speeds and Directions

open access: yesSensors
Floating wind turbines (FWTs) operate in offshore environments under harsh and varying operating conditions, making frequent in situ monitoring dangerous for maintenance teams and costly for operators. Remote and automated diagnosis, including the stages

Three phosphatase families form a community: The phosphohydrolases that act upon inositol pyrophosphates

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Inositol pyrophosphates are energy‐rich signaling molecules that perform critical functions in cells. Three different families of phosphatases hydrolyze the β phosphate of the inositol pyrophosphate molecules: two have narrow specificities and one is promiscuous.

NEUROMORPHIC COMPUTING BASED ON STOCHASTIC SPIKING RESERVOIR FOR HEARTBEAT CLASSIFICATION

open access: yesJordanian Journal of Computers and Information Technology, 2022
Heart disease is the leading cause of mortality worldwide. The precise heartbeat classification usually requires higher number of extracted features and heartbeats of the same class may also behave differently in patients.

Design and analysis strategies for robust microbiome ageing research

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The gut microbiome changes with age and associates with age‐related morbidity and mortality, establishing it as a potential biomarker and intervention target for ageing. Realising this potential requires methodological rigour, yet distinguishing biological signals from methodological artefacts remains challenging across cohorts. This review provides an

Bridging the Intention–Behavior Gap in Organic Food Consumption: Empirical Evidence from China

open access: yesFoods
The transition to a low-carbon economy emphasizes the importance of green and low-carbon consumption; yet, there is often a discrepancy between consumers’ intentions and their actual behavior regarding organic foods.

Stochastic Complementarity [PDF]

open access: yesSSRN Electronic Journal, 2018
The Hicksian definition of complementarity and substitutability may not apply in contexts in which agents are not utility maximisers or where price or income vari- ations, whether implicit or explicit, are not available. We look for tools to identify complementarity and substitutability satisfying the following criteria: they are be- havioural (based ...

Discerning protein pools by selective staining with self‐labeling tags

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Cell surface proteins have an intra‐ and extracellular pool. Combining genetic fusion to self‐labeling tags that can be addressed with small molecule fluorophores allows separating these pools. We highlight recent developments and techniques for state‐of‐the‐art interrogation of cell surface proteins in the complex tissue setting.
