Understanding the Stochastic Nature of Process Parameter Development of Blown Powder Laser Beam Directed Energy Deposition Additive Manufacturing of Pure Molybdenum

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Identified through the use of statistical design of experiments and metallographic investigation, this study exposes the stochastic origins of intergranular cracks in blown powder laser beam directed energy deposition additive manufacturing of pure molybdenum. It further demonstrates a successful crack mitigation approach with direct correlation to the

Almost Periodic Solutions for Impulsive Fractional Stochastic Evolution Equations

open access: yesInternational Journal of Analysis and Applications, 2014
In this paper, we consider the existence of square-mean piecewise almost periodic solutions for impulsive fractional stochastic evolution equations involving Caputo fractional derivative.

Fostering Innovation: Streamlining Magnetocaloric Materials Research by Digitalization

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Magnetocaloric cooling (MCE) is an environmentally friendly refrigeration method with great potential. Optimizing MCE materials involves the preparation and screening of large quantities of samples, which in turn generates a large amount of data. A digitalization approach is presented that uses ontologies, knowledge graphs, and digital workflows to ...

Enhancing Bubble Removal in Geometry‐Optimized Electrodes

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
3D‐printed lattice electrodes outperform stochastic foams in alkaline water electrolysis despite 20%–25% lower surface area. Straight flow channels generate Venturi‐like bubble entrainment, suppressing gas accumulation that renders foam interiors electrochemically inactive.

A Machine Learning Vibration-Based Methodology for Robust Detection and Severity Characterization of Gear Incipient Faults Under Variable Working Speed and Load

open access: yesMachines
A machine learning (ML) methodology for the robust detection and severity characterization of incipient gear faults under variable speed and load is postulated. The methodology is trained using vibration signals from a single accelerometer mounted on the

Bubble nucleation in a cold spin 1 gas

open access: yesNew Journal of Physics, 2023
Cold atomic gases offer the prospect of simulating the physics of the very early Universe in the laboratory. In the condensate phase, the gas is described by a field theory with key features of high energy particle theory.

Stochastic Languages at Sub-stochastic Cost

open access: yesCoRR
When does a deterministic computational model define a probability distribution? What are its properties? This work formalises and settles this stochasticity problem for weighted automata, and its generalisation cost register automata (CRA). We show that checking stochasticity is undecidable for CRAs in general.

Designing Polymer Nanocomposites for X‐Ray Shielding: Mechanisms, Architectures, and Scalable Processing

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This review highlights advances in lightweight, lead‐free polymer nanocomposites for diagnostic X‐ray shielding. By linking filler chemistry, dispersion, architecture, and photon interaction mechanisms, it establishes structure–performance relationships guiding material design.

Inverse Identification of Energy‐Dependent Laser Absorptivity in NiTi Laser Powder‐Bed Fusion via Calibrated Melt Pool Simulation

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A combined experimental–computational framework identifies energy‐dependent laser absorptivity for NiTi in laser powder‐bed fusion, applicable to conduction and transition modes. Single‐track experiments and thermofluid smoothed particle hydrodynamics simulations are coupled through inverse analysis of melt pool geometry.
