A posteriori error estimation for stochastic static problems [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
To solve stochastic static field problems, a discretization by the Finite Element Method can be used. A system of equations is obtained with the unknowns (scalar potential at nodes for example) being random variables. To solve this stochastic system, the

3D‐Printed Titanium Gyroid Scaffold Structure Integrated With Tough Hybrid Materials for Cartilage Replacement

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study proposes a potential device design for joint cartilage replacement. Silica‐polytetrahydrofuran (SiO2‐PolyTHF) hybrids with customizable mechanical properties were developed to mimic the characteristics of a natural meniscus. These were synthesized through a two‐pot sol–gel hybrid process.

Stochastic Capacity Investment and Flexible vs. Dedicated Technology Choice in Imperfect Capital Markets

open access: yesManagement Sciences, 2011
This paper analyzes the impact of endogenous credit terms under capital market imperfections in a capacity investment setting. We model a monopolist firm that decides on its technology choice (flexible versus dedicated) and capacity level under demand ...

Rotary 3D Printing With Integrated Electroplating

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A rotary material extrusion platform integrates localized copper electroplating with printing and encapsulation to fabricate cylindrical polymer–metal structures containing fully embedded, low‐resistance conductive pathways that enable internal Joule heating and thermally activated shape‐memory responses.

A Multi‐Scale Machine Learning Framework for the Inverse Design of High Entropy Alloys

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
High‐entropy alloys offer vast potential for various applications, including electrocatalysis; however, their compositional complexity challenges conventional screening. We introduce an inverse‐design framework combining two neural networks to determine optimal compositions and reconstruct nanoparticle geometry from targeted properties and conventional

Energy only, capacity market and security of supply. A stochastic equilibrium analysis [PDF]

open access: yes
Former generation capacity expansion models were formulated as optimization problems. These included a reliability criterion and hence guaranteed security of supply.

All‐in‐One Analog AI Hardware: On‐Chip Training and Inference with Conductive‐Metal‐Oxide/HfOx ReRAM Devices

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
An all‐in‐one analog AI accelerator is presented, enabling on‐chip training, weight retention, and long‐term inference acceleration. It leverages a BEOL‐integrated CMO/HfOx ReRAM array with low‐voltage operation (<1.5 V), multi‐bit capability over 32 states, low programming noise (10 nS), and near‐ideal weight transfer.

Modern methods for assessing the bearing capacity of shallow foundation bases

open access: yesИзвестия Томского политехнического университета: Инжиниринг георесурсов
Relevance. The engineering and geological structure of survey sites, as a rule, involves working with heterogeneous, multi-layered, weak soils, in which case classical approaches to determining the bearing capacity of the foundation can give significant
