Energetics of stochastic resonance

Chaos: An Interdisciplinary Journal of Nonlinear Science, 2011
In this paper, we discuss the motion of a Brownian particle in a double-well potential driven by a periodic force in terms of energies delivered by the periodic and the noise forces and energy dissipated into the viscous environment. It is shown that, while the power delivered by the periodic force to the Brownian particle is controlled by the strength

Coupling-enhanced stochastic resonance

Physical Review E, 2017
Stochastic resonance is analyzed in an array of nonlinear spatially coupled subsystems. Analytic expressions for the different steady-state solutions, for the rates of transitions between them in the presence of noise, and for the response to a weak external periodic forcing are derived.

Remarks on stochastic resonance

Physical Review A, 1989
A recent and interesting experimental paper [B. McNamara, K. Wiesenfeld, and R. Roy, Phys. Rev. Lett. 60, 2626 (1988)] has refocused attention on the problem of stochastic resonance by presenting measurements of the singal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of a noise driven, periodically modulated bistable ring laser.

Theory of stochastic resonance

Physical Review A, 1989
The concept of stochastic resonance has been introduced previously to describe a curious phenomenon in bistable systems subject to both periodic and random forcing: an increase in the input noise can result in an improvement in the output signal-to-noise ratio. In this paper we present a detailed theoretical and numerical study of stochastic resonance,

Stochastic Resonance

Berichte der Bunsengesellschaft für physikalische Chemie, 1991
AbstractStochastic Resonance (SR) is a term given to an effect which is manifest in multi stable nonlinear systems driven simultaneously by noise and a weak periodic function, whereby the information flow through the system, in the form of the frequency of the periodic function, is assisted by the noise.

Stochastic Resonance and Crises

Physical Review Letters, 1993
Stochastic resonance is a phenomenon seen in multistable systems where the addition of noise to the system can amplify small periodic signals. We show in an experiment with a circuit that many of the concepts used to describe crises may also be used to describe stochastic resonance.

Stochastic resonance as crisis

Physical Review E, 1994
Based on approximate methods of nonlinear oscillations and experimental studies, we show the evidence that stochastic resonance in Duffing's equation can be considered as an example of crisis.

Noise-Induced Resonances: Stochastic Resonance, Resonant Activation, and Stochastic Ratchets

2018
Our world is replete with noises. In common sense a noise is a nuisance that blocks coherence; you feel annoyed with ambient sound noises when listening to music. In this chapter we will study a counter-intuitive phenomenon, called stochastic resonance (SR) , where a periodically modulated perturbation or signal too weak to be detected can be enhanced ...
