Interactive Visualisation of the Food Content of a Human Stomach in MRI

open access: yes, 2022
Most medical imaging studies into human digestion focus on the organs themselves and neglect the content under digestion. Instead, analysing food inside digestive organs and any subsequent motion can provide valuable information about the digestive tract.

Partial trophic segregation in co-occurring Gambusia species (Cyprinodontiformes: Poeciliidae) in a natural wetland of Cuba/ Segregación trófica parcial entre especies de Gambusia (Cyprinodontiformes: Poeciliidae) en un humedal natural de Cuba

open access: yesRevista de Investigaciones Marinas, 2019
Gambusia punctata and Gambusia puncticulata show a distinctive distribution pattern in Cuba: G. punctata dominates mountain streams, whereas G. puncticulata is more abundant in lowland wetlands.

Structural insights and therapeutic targets in Acinetobacter baumannii capsule biosynthesis

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Hypervirulent KL49 A. baumannii's capsular polysaccharide contains the nonulosonic acid 8‐epi‐Leg5,7Ac2, synthesized by epimerization via ElaA, ElaB, and ElaC. Crystal structures of ElaA, ElaB, and ElaC reveal their role in CMP‐Leg5,7Ac2 synthesis and regioselective C8 epimerization.

Reconstructing enzyme evolution by protein engineering

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Natural enzyme evolution can be retraced by protein engineering methods such as directed evolution, rational design, and ancestral sequence reconstruction. These approaches reveal how enzymes emerged from ligand‐binding scaffolds, developed varying substrate preferences, formed oligomeric complexes, adapted to environmental changes, and evolved novel ...

Feeding Ecology of the Critically Endangered Gobio insuyanus (Gobionidae)

open access: yesEcology and Evolution
Despite the critical conservation status of the endemic gudgeon Gobio insuyanus, its feeding ecology remained unstudied. This research addresses this gap by investigating the diet of G.

Analysis of food habits of skate Rioraja agassizii (Elasmobranchii, Rajidae) from southern Brazil

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Biology
Catches and exports of skate Rioraja agassizii place this species as “vulnerable to extinction” on the IUCN Red List; therefore, biological and ecological knowledge becomes an important instrument for its conservation control.

TRAIL‐PEG‐Apt‐PLGA nanosystem as an aptamer‐targeted drug delivery system potential for triple‐negative breast cancer therapy using in vivo mouse model

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aptamers are used both therapeutically and as targeting agents in cancer treatment. We developed an aptamer‐targeted PLGA–TRAIL nanosystem that exhibited superior therapeutic efficacy in NOD/SCID breast cancer models. This nanosystem represents a novel biotechnological drug candidate for suppressing resistance development in breast cancer.
