Kin discrimination in plants: overview and implications for population and community ecology

open access: yesBiological Reviews, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Following the discovery of identity discrimination, particularly self and kin discrimination amongst plant competitors, research on interplant interactions has advanced significantly within plant physiology and evolutionary ecology. This review synthesizes current knowledge on how both self and kin discrimination influence plant growth ...

Production of Triploid Seedless Sweet Orange [Citrus sinensis (L.) Osbeck] cv. Mosambi: A Success Story

open access: yesAgronomy
The sweet oranges [C. sinensis (L.) Osbeck] produced in India are mainly consumed fresh as a table fruit and in the form of freshly extracted juice. Currently, a fraction of the fruit is processed into products like orange juice, concentrates, pulp, and ...

The effect of light quality on the expression of stomatal development genes of maize

open access: yesPhotosynthetica, 2019
Light-induced stomatal development is mediated through a crosstalk between cryptochrome (CRY), phytochrome (phy), and constitutive photomorphogenic 1 (COP1)-signaling systems.

The roles of stomatal morphologies in transpiration and nutrient transportation between grasses and forbs in a temperate steppe

open access: yesAnnals of Botany, 2023
Abstract Background and Aims Grasses and forbs are dominant functional groups in temperate grasslands and display substantial differences in many biological traits, especially in root and stomatal morphologies, which are closely related to the use of water and nutrients.

Hot and cold deserts as eco‐evolutionary arenas for understanding plant resistance to multiple abiotic stressors

open access: yesBiological Reviews, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT During their long evolutionary history, land plants have evolved a range of adaptations to different abiotic stressors. These help explain present‐day diversity and distribution patterns, as well as the potential resilience of natural and agricultural systems to a changing climate. Most previous research has focused on adaptation to individual

Changes in Stomata and Chlorophyll Content with Leaf Growth in Cherry Laurel

open access: yesISPEC Journal of Agricultural Sciences
In this research, leaf morphology, stomatal structure, and pigment concentration were examined and compared between young and mature cherry laurel leaves. Findings showed that mature leaves exhibited statistically significant increases in stomatal width

Response of Leaf Traits of Eastern Qinghai-Tibetan Broad-Leaved Woody Plants to Climatic Factors

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science, 2021
Plant ecologists have long been interested in quantifying how leaf traits vary with climate factors, but there is a paucity of knowledge on these relationships given a large number of the relevant leaf traits and climate factors to be considered.

Radiologic, Histologic and Scanning Electron Microscopic Characterization of the Peritoneal Reflection in Crohn's Disease

open access: yesClinical Anatomy, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The peritoneal reflection bridges visceral and parietal peritoneum and lacks adjoining or underlying organs. As such it provides an opportunity to perform a focussed examination of the peritoneum in Crohn's disease. The aim of this study was to exploit this anatomical property and conduct a multilayered, focussed examination of the peritoneal ...

Micro–Nano Bubbles Alleviate Osmotic Stress in Tomato by Modulating Root Water Transport-Related Gene Expression and Hormonal Balance

open access: yesHorticulturae
Osmotic stress severely limits the growth and development of tomato (Solanum lycopersicum L.) by reducing cellular water potential, disrupting redox homeostasis, and impairing physiological functions.

Applications of Biomaterials in Separators for Secondary Batteries

open access: yesCarbon Energy, EarlyView.
In this review, biomaterial‐based separators are reviewed as sustainable alternatives to conventional polyolefin‐based separators. For 12 different natural polymers, spanning from Protista, Plantae, and Animalia, viable strategies for synthesizing biomass‐based separators are described.
