The nematocyst proteins of jellyfish Stomolophus meleagris, a complicated mixture, contain many important bioactive molecules. In present study, to gain comprehensive insight into the protein component and search some novel bioactive molecules in the nematocyst proteins, shotgun proteomic analysis of the nematocyst proteins was carried out by nano ...

Association of the whale shark
This study describes the first record of the whale shark Rhincodon typus association with the cannonball jellyfish Stomolophus meleagris in the Gulf of California, Mexico. Whale sharks were observed swimming and feeding among swarms of jellyfish, suggesting competition and predatory behaviour given the overlap in food preferences between both species ...

Ovarian structure and oogenesis has been examined in six scyphozoan species including the semaeostome Diplumularis antarctica Maas, 1908 (collected in 1987 in McMurdo Sound, Antarctic), the rhizostomes Cassiopea xamachana Bigelow, 1892 (collected in Belize in 1988), and Stomolophus meleagris L. Agassiz, 1862 (collected in Ft. Pierce Inlet in 1988), and

Abstract Toxin from the jellyfish Stomolophus meleagris was found to stimulate both Na + -K + and mitochondrial Mg 2+ ATPase activities at low toxin concentrations and to inhibit these ATPase activities at higher (> 0·2 mg/ml) concentrations. Using discontinuous membrane partition chromatography the toxin was fractionated into six fractions.

Abstract More than 20 prey taxa were identified from gut contents of Stomolophus meleagris medusae in the north-eastern Gulf of Mexico; seven taxa formed over 98% of the total. Bivalve veligers (mostly Crassostrea virginica ) dominated, constituting 56% of the total.
