Risk-Based Stopping Criteria for Test Sequencing

IEEE Transactions on Systems, Man, and Cybernetics - Part A: Systems and Humans, 2008
Testing complex manufacturing systems, like ASML lithographic machines, can take up to 45% of the total development time. The decision of when to stop testing is often difficult to make because less testing may leave critical faults in the system, while more testing increases time-to-market.

Stopping Criteria for Finite Length Genetic Algorithms

INFORMS Journal on Computing, 1996
Considerable empirical results have been reported on the computational performance of genetic algorithms but little has been studied on their convergence behavior or on stopping criteria. In this paper we derive bounds on the number of iterations required to achieve a level of confidence to guarantee that a genetic algorithm has seen all populations ...

Stopping Criteria for Multimodal Optimization

2014
Multimodal optimization requires maintenance of a good search space coverage and approximation of several optima at the same time. We analyze two constitutive optimization algorithms and show that in many cases, a phase transition occurs at some point, so that either diversity collapses or optimization stagnates.

On Stopping Criteria for Genetic Algorithms

2004
In this work we present a critical analysis of various aspects associated with the specification of termination conditions for simple genetic algorithms. The study, which is based on the use of Markov chains, identifies the main difficulties that arise when one wishes to set meaningful upper bounds for the number of iterations required to guarantee the

Stopping Criteria in Sequential Choice

Organizational Behavior and Human Decision Processes, 1996
Abstract The essential decision in sequential choice is not which alternative to choose but when to stop acquiring additional information and commit to the leading alternative. Two studies investigate individuals’ stopping strategies. The key difference between the two studies is whether the experimenter or subjects controlled the order in which ...

Stopping criteria for iterative methods:¶applications to PDE's

Calcolo, 2001
The authors focus on the fact that, when considering Galerkin-type discretizations of partial differential equations (PDE), the residual \(\rho^{(n)}=A x^{(n)}-b\) is the discrete counterpart of a linear functional, \(R^{(n)}\), which belongs to the dual of the space that contains the exact solution. They show the difference between the exact algebraic

Stopping Criteria for Ensemble-Based Feature Selection

2007
Selecting the optimal number of features in a classifier ensemble normally requires a validation set or cross-validation techniques. In this paper, feature ranking is combined with Recursive Feature Elimination (RFE), which is an effective technique for eliminating irrelevant features when the feature dimension is large.

Stopping criteria for ensemble of evolutionary artificial neural networks

Applied Soft Computing, 2005
The formation of ensemble of artificial neural networks has attracted attentions of researchers in the machine learning and statistical inference domains. It has been shown that combining different neural networks could improve the generalization ability of the learning machine.

Stopping Criteria Based on Locally Reconstructed Fluxes

2014
We propose stopping criteria for the iterative solution of equations resulting from discretization by conforming, nonconforming, and total discontinuous finite element methods. A simple modification of error estimators based on locally reconstructed fluxes allows to split the estimator into a discretisation-based and an iteration-based part. Comparison

New stopping criteria for turbo decoder

2011 Second International Conference on Mechanic Automation and Control Engineering, 2011
This paper presents a new stopping criteria for turbo decoder. In this new stopping criteria, using the coding constrain of turbo code and hard-decision-aided (HDA) algorithm together, we can reduce the frame error rate and undetected frame error rate. A Genie scheme is included as the limit of all possible stopping criteria.
