Stopping Criteria for Iterative Solvers

SIAM Journal on Matrix Analysis and Applications, 1992
New stopping criteria are suggested which are suitable for iterative solution of linear and even nonlinear systems of equations. These criteria follows from the backward error analysis and make use of not only the residual \(r\) and the right hand side \(b\) but also the approximate solution \(\hat x\) and the matrix \(A\) or the Jacobian of the system

Two simple stopping criteria for turbo decoding

IEEE Transactions on Communications, 1999
Summary: This paper presents two simple and effective criteria for stopping the iteration process in turbo decoding with a negligible degradation of the error performance. Both criteria are devised based on the cross-entropy (CE) concept. They are as efficient as the CE criterion, but require much less and simpler computations.

Stopping Criteria for Adaptive Finite Element Solvers

SIAM Journal of Scientific Computing, 2013
We consider a family of practical stopping criteria for linear solvers for adaptive finite element methods for symmetric elliptic problems. A contraction property between two consecutive levels of refinement of the adaptive algorithm is shown when a family of smallness criteria for the corresponding linear solver residuals are assumed on each level or ...

Stopping criteria for statistical testing

Information and Software Technology, 2000
Abstract The decision to stop testing can be based on a number of criteria, such as (1) the confidence in a reliability estimate; (2) the degree to which testing experience has converged to the expected use of the software; and (3) model coverage criteria based on a degree of state, arc, or path coverage during crafted and random testing. In practice

Stop criteria in simulated annealing

Proceedings 1988 IEEE International Conference on Computer Design: VLSI, 2003
The authors propose stopping criteria based on statistics collected during the annealing. In contrast to conventional stop criteria, the proposed criteria do not depend on the move set. Specifically, formulae are presented for detecting that an adequate final temperature has been reached.
