Storage games

open access: yesThe RAND Journal of Economics
ABSTRACT We study a long‐horizon, oligopolistic market with random shocks to demand that can be arbitraged by two storage operators with finite capacity. This problem applies to any storable commodity—that is, most commodities.

Thermochemical Heat Storage – from Reaction Storage Density to System Storage Density

open access: yesEnergy Procedia, 2016
AbstractLong-term and compact storage of solar energy is crucial for the eventual transition to a 100% renewable energy economy. For this, thermochemical materials provide a promising solution. The compactness of a long-term storage system is determined by the thermochemical reaction, operating conditions, and system implementation with the necessary ...

PYCR1 inhibition in bone marrow stromal cells enhances bortezomib sensitivity in multiple myeloma cells by altering their metabolism

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study investigated how PYCR1 inhibition in bone marrow stromal cells (BMSCs) indirectly affects multiple myeloma (MM) cell metabolism and viability. Culturing MM cells in conditioned medium from PYCR1‐silenced BMSCs impaired oxidative phosphorylation and increased sensitivity to bortezomib.

Short-Term Forecasting of Czech Quarterly GDP Using Monthly Indicators [PDF]

open access: yes
The authors evaluate the out-of-sample forecasting performance of six competing models at horizons of up to three quarters ahead in a pseudo-real time setup. All the models use information in monthly indicators released ahead of quarterly GDP.

In vitro properties of patient serum predict clinical outcome after high dose rate brachytherapy of hepatocellular carcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Following high dose rate brachytherapy (HDR‐BT) for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), patients were classified as responders and nonresponders. Post‐therapy serum induced increased BrdU incorporation and Cyclin E expression of Huh7 and HepG2 cells in nonresponders, but decreased levels in responders.

Identification on Key Volatiles Contributed to Oviposition Preference of Plodia interpunctella (Hübner, 1813) (Lepidoptera: Pyralidae) from High and Normal Oleic Varieties of Peanut

open access: yesInsects
The Indian meal moth, Plodia interpunctella (Hübner, 1813) (Lepidoptera: Pyralidae), a primary stored peanut insect pest, exhibited a significant difference in oviposition preference among normal-oleic peanuts (NOPs) and high-oleic peanuts (HOPs ...

Molecular Study of Dynamic Behavior between Head and Ultrathin Lubricant Film

open access: yesJournal of Advanced Mechanical Design, Systems, and Manufacturing, 2010
The lubricant, perfluoropolyethers (PFPEs), has been modeled and analyzed using molecular dynamics simulations based on a coarse-grained bead-spring model.

Are House Prices Characterized by Threshold Effects? Evidence from Developed and Post-Transition Countries [PDF]

open access: yes
The authors use a nonlinear framework in order to explore house price determinants and adjustment properties. They test for threshold cointegration using a sample of four developed countries (the United States, the United Kingdom, Spain, and Ireland) and

A synthetic benzoxazine dimer derivative targets c‐Myc to inhibit colorectal cancer progression

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Benzoxazine dimer derivatives bind to the bHLH‐LZ region of c‐Myc, disrupting c‐Myc/MAX complexes, which are evaluated from SAR analysis. This increases ubiquitination and reduces cellular c‐Myc. Impairing DNA repair mechanisms is shown through proteomic analysis.

Generalized Brewster effect in dielectric metasurfaces

open access: yesNature Communications, 2016
Devices with greater freedom are desired in nanophotonics. Here, the authors demonstrate theoretically and experimentally that the generalized Brewster effect can be observed in an all-dielectric metasurface potentially for any angle, wavelength and ...
