Effect of Temperature and Insect Infestation Levels on Oxygen Depletion in Hermetic Storage

open access: yesInsects, 2023
Hermetic storage methods are effective at protecting grain against insect pests. Biotic and abiotic factors influence oxygen depletion during hermetic storage.

Selected Cultivar-Specific Parameters of Wheat Grain as Factors Influencing Intensity of Development of Grain Weevil Sitophilus granarius (L.)

open access: yesAgriculture, 2023
Wheat, the main source of protein in the human diet, is a staple food in many countries. The yields and technological quality of wheat grain depend on both the yielding potential of wheat and the properties of wheat grain that allow its safe storage.

Maize Combined Insect Resistance Genomic Regions and Their Co-localization With Cell Wall Constituents Revealed by Tissue-Specific QTL Meta-Analyses

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science, 2018
Combinatorial insect attacks on maize leaves, stems, and kernels cause significant yield losses and mycotoxin contaminations. Several small effect quantitative trait loci (QTL) control maize resistance to stem borers and storage pests and are correlated ...

A Preliminary Analysis on the Insecticidal Effect of Cyantraniliprole against Stored-Product Pests

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2022
While existing insecticides are becoming obsolete, the need for research and application of alternative substances is growing. Cyantraniliprole is a second-generation ryanodine receptor with the ability to bind and activate the ryanodine receptors in ...

Rapid discrimination of the common species of the stored product pest Liposcelis (Psocoptera: Liposcelididae) from China and the Czech Republic, based on PCR-RFLP analysis

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Entomology, 2008
Psocids of the genus Liposcelis (Psocoptera: Liposcelididae) are stored product pests that are difficult to identify morphologically. A molecular method based on Restriction Fragment Length Polymorphism (RFLP) of the PCR-amplified 16S rDNA gene was ...

Essential oil bioactivity evaluation of the different populations of Cupressus against adult rice weevil (Sitophilus oryzae L.)

open access: yesJournal of Medicinal Plants, 2021
Background: A significant amount of crop production is destroyed annually by pests in the storage and significant damage is caused to crops. Recently, the use of essential oils as an alternative to pesticides in pest control has been considered.

Transgenic avidin maize is resistant to storage insect pests

open access: yesNature Biotechnology, 2000
Avidin is a glycoprotein found in chicken egg white, that sequesters the vitamin biotin. Here we show that when present in maize at levels of > or =100 p.p.m., avidin is toxic to and prevents development of insects that damage grains during storage.
