Calculations of space-charge tune shifts in storage rings with extremely short bunches and small bunch spacing

open access: yesPhysical Review Accelerators and Beams
Space-charge tune shifts can affect the beam quality in storage rings. Laslett’s method, a classical approach for calculating space-charge tune shifts, may not hold valid assumptions for rings with extremely short bunches and small bunch spacing, such as

High gradient quadrupoles for low emittance storage rings

open access: yesPhysical Review Accelerators and Beams, 2016
High gradient quadrupoles are key components for the coming generation of storage ring based light sources. The typical specifications of these magnets are: almost 100  T/m gradient, half a meter long, and a vertical aperture for the extraction of the x ...

Electrostatic Storage Ring

open access: yes, 2011
In the trial \cite{BNL} of measuring the proton electric moment, storage rings with electrostatic lattice have been considered. Here an overview is given about the main parameters regarding such a kind of focusing. Beyond confirming all the issues regarding this subject, a non-null element $M_{31}$ is introduced in all the $3\times 3$ matrices which ...

Life of the dust macroparticles in storage rings

open access: yesPhysical Review Special Topics. Accelerators and Beams, 2005
The sudden drop of the beam lifetime and bursts of the background radiation were detected in many machines and associated with microscopic dust particles.

Mycobacterial cell division arrest and smooth‐to‐rough envelope transition using CRISPRi‐mediated genetic repression systems

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
CRISPRI‐mediated gene silencing and phenotypic exploration in nontuberculous mycobacteria. In this Research Protocol, we describe approaches to control, monitor, and quantitatively assess CRISPRI‐mediated gene silencing in M. smegmatis and M. abscessus model organisms.

Interplay of Touschek scattering, intrabeam scattering, and rf cavities in ultralow-emittance storage rings

open access: yesPhysical Review Special Topics. Accelerators and Beams, 2014
The latest generation of storage ring-based light sources employs multibend achromat lattices to achieve ultralow emittance. These lattices make use of a large number of weak bending magnets which considerably reduces the amount of power radiated in the ...

C2α‐carbanion‐protonating glutamate discloses tradeoffs between substrate accommodation and reaction rate in actinobacterial 2‐hydroxyacyl‐CoA lyase

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Enzymes of the 2‐hydroxyacyl‐CoA lyase group catalyze the condensation of formyl‐CoA with aldehydes or ketones. Thus, by structural adaptation of active sites, practically any pharmaceutically and industrially important 2‐hydroxyacid could be biotechnologically synthesized. Combining crystal structure analysis, active site mutations and kinetic assays,

Beam dynamics in Compton ring gamma sources

open access: yesPhysical Review Special Topics. Accelerators and Beams, 2006
Electron storage rings of GeV energy with laser pulse stacking cavities are promising intense sources of polarized hard photons which, via pair production, can be used to generate polarized positron beams.

Analysing the significance of small conformational changes and low occupancy states in serial crystallographic data

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This protocol paper outlines methods to establish the success of a time‐resolved serial crystallographic experiment, by means of statistical analysis of timepoint data in reciprocal space and models in real space. We show how to amplify the signal from excited states to visualise structural changes in successful experiments.
