In our recent study, we examined whether ants in the Brazilian Cerrado follow the “grain‐size hypothesis,” which proposes that larger ants should have proportionally longer legs to move efficiently across different environments. We used Ectatomma permagnum, a common predatory ant in the Cerrado, measuring hundreds of individuals collected from various ...

Disinfestation of stored grain insects using microwave energy
Disinfestation using microwaves can be an alternate to chemical methods of killing insects in grain. A pilot-scale industrial microwave dryer operating at 2.45 GHz was used to determine the mortality of life stages of Tribolium castaneum (Herbst), Sitophilus granarius (L.) and Cryptolestes ferrugineus (Stephens) adults in wheat, barley, and rye.

ABSTRACT Cuticular waxes can form a hydrophobic barrier on aerial plant surfaces, which is essential for mediating plant‐environment interactions by providing protection against both biotic and abiotic stresses. In this study, a cuticular wax mutant (gl) was identified and characterised in Welsh onion (Allium fistulosum L.), exhibiting a functional ...
