Diversity and complexity in neural organoids

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Neural organoid research aims to expand genetic diversity on one side and increase tissue complexity on the other. Chimeroids integrate multiple donor genomes within single organoids. Self‐organising multi‐identity organoids, exogenous cell seeding, or enforced assembly of region‐specific organoids contribute to tissue complexity.

Data on three-year zooplankton monitoring in ditches of the apple orchard region of Altes Land, Germany

open access: yesData in Brief, 2019
The data presented in this article are related to the research article ‘Chemical and biological monitoring of the load of plant protection products and of zoocoenoses in ditches of the orchard region Altes Land’ (Süß et al., 2006), which is only ...

Effectiveness of flameless catalytic infrared radiation against life stages of three stored-product insect species in stored wheat [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
A bench top flameless catalytic infrared emitter was evaluated in the laboratory to disinfest wheat containing different life stages (ages) of the lesser grain borer, Rhyzopertha dominica; rice weevil, Sitophilus oryzae; and red flour beetle, Tribolium ...

Salmonella lipopolysaccharide‐containing supported lipid bilayers as platforms to study bacteriophage interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present robust protocols for the preparation of supported lipid bilayers (SLBs) incorporating either Salmonella smooth LPS or outer membrane vesicles (OMVs). We use a combination of quartz crystal microbalance with dissipation (QCM‐D) and fluorescence microscopy to both characterize the SLBs of various compositions and to probe their interactions ...

Microbiome−host proteostasis crosstalk—An emerging perspective on mechanisms and interventions toward healthy longevity

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Proteostasis and the gut microbiota play a key role in shaping host physiology. Microbiota‐derived metabolites, vitamins, and RNA modulate host proteostasis. Findings from model systems, including C. elegans, indicate microbes can either stabilize or disrupt host proteostasis.

The potential of host-specific volatiles from Tribolium confusum larval faeces for luring the ectoparasitoid Holepyris sylvanidis

open access: yesJulius-Kühn-Archiv, 2018
The ectoparasitoid Holepyris sylvanidis (Bethylidae) attacks larvae of different stored product pest beetles. Previous studies on the olfactory host search of H.

A novel natural insecticide molecule for grain protection [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
We have isolated a novel bioactive molecule from the roots of Decalepis hamiltonii that shows insecticidal properties against the stored-product insects Sitophilus oryzae, Rhyzopertha dominica and Callosobruchus chinensis by contact bioassay (LC50: 0.033-

An epithelial GPR35 isoform supports tumor‐associated transcriptional and metabolic phenotypes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
GPR35 generates two functionally distinct isoforms with previously unresolved roles. GPR35‐short mediates immune‐cell chemotaxis, while GPR35‐long is enriched in colorectal cancer epithelium, where it supports increased metabolism, proliferation, and tumor‐associated transcriptional programs.

Protection of stored plant products from rodent pests using chlorophacinone [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Apart from some preventive measures, advisably taken during construction of storage facilities or at the time of product storage, treatments with chemical rodenticides have been the most widely practiced method of controlling commensal rodents.

Liver organoids: modelling complexity in homeostasis and disease

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Studying liver in vitro has been challenging because simple 2D cell cultures fail to capture liver's cellular and architectural complexity. To bridge this gap, scientists increasingly use organoids, 3D liver models which better mimic liver composition and function. This review examines recent advances in liver organoid complexity and realism, discusses
