Design of Storm Sewer Networks

Journal of the Environmental Engineering Division, 1975
Five methods for design of storm and combined sewers are compared by determining the size of the sewers of an example network. The Illinois Storm Sewer Systems Simulation (ISS) Model appears to be the most accurate method suitable for large expensive networks, and can also be used to study on-line retention storage.

Performance of Model Storm Sewer Junctions

Journal of the Hydraulics Division, 1978
The design of an effective storm water junction structure requires calculation of the energy losses, and associated backwater effects, in the vicinity of the junction under anticipated maximum flows in the incoming sewers. In the case of hydraulically inefficient junctions, energy losses due to stream mixing and from drag can lead to surcharged ...

Erosion on Cohesive Deposition in Storm Sewers

Journal of Environmental Engineering, 2020
AbstractErosion of sediment deposition in storm sewers is dominated by the bed shear stress and the deposition characteristics.

Modeling Mixed Flow in Storm Sewers

Journal of Hydraulic Engineering, 1999
The blowing off of storm manhole covers may be attributed to the severe pressure transients that can occur during and after the transition from free-surface to pressurized flow in a sewer system. Observations from a physical sewer model with a submerged outlet indicate that the pressure transients were composed of an initial low frequency water hammer ...

Contribution on transient flow modelling in storm sewers

Journal of Hydraulic Research, 2002
Currently, the Preissmann slot model still enjoys popularity in modelling the transition between free-surface and fully pressurised flows in tail-race tunnels.

Modelling of Urban Storm Sewer Systems

1986
The paper describes a software system for computer aided analysis and design of urban sewer systems. The software system consists primarily of two database systems, a computational module and an expert module. The system is designed and developed especially for microcomputers.

Optimal risk-based design of storm sewer networks

Computer-Aided Design, 1975
Optimal design of sewer network has conventionally been pursued within a deterministic framework. However, such design may be appropriate because of existence of uncertainties affecting the performance of a storm sewer system, e.g., precipitation rate, insufficient data, errors in design equations, and other factors.

Sediment movement in storm sewer systems

2020
Sediment in storm sewers attracts increasing attentions in recent years due to two major issues including the sewer blockage and the environmental contamination. Pollutants attached to fine sediment surface may adversely affect aquatic life and natural water bodies.

Model of Storm Sewer Discharge. I: Description

Journal of Environmental Engineering, 1998
This article presents a mathematical deterministic model for simulating the quantity and quality of discharge from a network of storm sewers for any given rainfall. The model is needed to calculate the hydrographs and pollutographs of discharge at any point in the sewer network.
