Surface Geometry of Straight and Spiral Bevel Gears

Journal of Mechanisms, Transmissions, and Automation in Design, 1987
The fundamental geometrical characteristics of bevel gears have been discussed in this study. The mathematical modeling of the tooth surface geometry of bevel gears can be developed based on the basic gearing kinematics and involute geometry along with the tangent planes geometry.

Actual Tooth Contact Analysis of Straight Bevel Gears

Journal of Mechanical Design, 2015
Theoretically, spherical involutes are used as one of the base topographies for straight bevel gears. Actual bevel gears, however, have deviations from their intended topographies due to manufacturing errors, heat treatment deviations, and finishing processes. Measuring the physical parts with coordinate measuring machines (CMMs), this study proposes a

Mathematical Model for Face-Hobbed Straight Bevel Gears

Journal of Mechanical Design, 2012
Face hobbing, a continuous indexing and double-flank cutting process, has become the leading method for manufacturing spiral bevel gears and hypoid gears because of its ability to support high productivity and precision. The method is unsuitable for cutting straight bevel gears, however, because it generates extended epicycloidal flanks.

Manufacture of face-hobbed straight bevel gears using a six-axis CNC bevel gear cutting machine

The International Journal of Advanced Manufacturing Technology, 2013
Face hobbing is a continuous indexing and double-flank cutting process whose high productivity and precision has made it one of the leading methods for fabricating spiral bevel and hypoid gears. The current method is inappropriate, however, for cutting straight bevel gears (SBGs) because it generates extended epicycloidal flanks.

Straight Bevel Gears

Volume 4: 9th International Power Transmission and Gearing Conference, Parts A and B, 2020
In this chapter, the fundamentals of straight bevel geometry are given and the related main quantities are defined. Geometry of spherical involute and octoid toothing is introduced and implications on the cutting processes of these gears are analyzed.

Forged Straight Bevel Gears - An Overview

SAE Technical Paper Series, 1983
<div class="htmlview paragraph">Over the past twenty years a number of companies have developed proprietary processes for forging net shape straight bevel gears. The inherent complexity of bevel gear geometry requires tight process control to forge gears which require no further machining on the teeth.

CAD Modeling of Straight Bevel Gears

2004
In this paper, the foundation equations for gear modeling are presented. Based on ACIS geometric engine, gear-modeling software is developed. The solid model of a straight bevel gear is generated.

On Abrasive Flow Finishing of Straight Bevel Gear

2021
Abrasive flow finishing (AFF) is a non-traditional nano-finishing process for radiusing, polishing, surface stress reliving, geometry optimization and deburring. This paper reports on finishing of straight bevel gear by using AFF. Experimental setup of AFF and a special fixture for holding workpiece straight bevel gear were developed.
