Identification of straight-chain fatty acids in coal extracts and their geochemical relation with straight-chain alkanes

Fuel, 1981
Abstract Mono-carboxylic, straight-chain fatty acids are present in extracts of lignite and subbituminous coal (0.4–1.0 wt%, daf basis), but not in those of a bituminous coal. They are removed with nearly equal ease by both solvent and supercritical gas (SCG) extraction.

Partitioning of SSOCs into Straight-Chained Surfactants

Journal of Environmental Engineering, 2000
The purpose of this research was to study the effect of surfactant structure and micelle composition on the partitioning of sparingly soluble organic compounds (SSOCs) into surfactant micelles. The surfactants used in the research were sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS), dodecyl trimethyl ammonium bromide (DDTMA), tetradecyl trimethyl ammonium bromide (TDTMA)

Mammalian Metabolism of Straight-chain Saturated Hydrocarbons

Journal of Occupational and Environmental Medicine, 1964
Abstract The metabolism of straight-chain saturated hydrocarbons has been demonstrated in the goat, rat and chicken. Studies with [1-14C]octadecane and [1-14C]hexadecane shwoed that the hydrocarbons were converted directly to fatty acids of the same chain length.

Ring versus straight chain perfluorocarbon emulsions for perfusion media

Microvascular Research, 1974
Over 100 perfluorinated organic substances (PFS) oxygen solvents and 80 surfactants have been tested in emulsions for possible use as artificial blood. Most PFS are too toxic, will not form stable emulsions, have too high a vapor pressure, or become firmly attached to the liver, where they are found in both Kupffer cells and hepatocytes.

Straight‐chain alkylbenzenes: Structure and performance property relations

Journal of the American Oil Chemists' Society, 1964
AbstractAn intensive study of the mass spectral characteristics of straight‐chain alkylbenzenes has been made in conjuction with their ultimate performance as sulfonates in heavy duty formulations. Two variables of the alkylates, carbon‐chain length distribution (which fixes the mean mol wt) and phenyl position on the chain, have been successfully ...

Straight chain alkane-assisted synthesis of mesoporous silica

Materials Letters, 2012
Abstract Unique mesoporous silica materials are synthesized with different straight chain alkanes, n-dodecane, n-decane and n-hexane. As swelling agents, these straight alkanes exhibit comparable swelling effect on the nano-sized channels of these mesoporous silica materials and thus the pore size of these silica materials varies in a narrow range ...

The Dielectric Behavior of Straight Chain Alcohol Blends

IEEE Transactions on Electrical Insulation, 1985
Time Domain Spectroscopy (TDS) has been used in this study to determine the dielectric relaxations of several mixtures of normal alcohols. The complex permittivity ?* (?) was determined in the frequency range from 106 to 5×109 Hz for temperatures ranging from -20 to 500C.

Straight-chain fatty alcohols in the hyperthermophilic archaeon Pyrococcus furiosus

Extremophiles, 2000
Two straight-chain fatty alcohols (n-hexadecanol and n-octadecanol) were found in the neutral lipid fraction extracted from Pyrococcus furiosus cells. They were identified by thin-layer and gas-liquid chromatography, mass and infrared spectra, and chemical modification. The fatty alcohols accounted for 54% of the neutral lipid of the cell.

Pharmacodynamics of straight-chain and branched-chain acidic triamterene derivatives.

Arzneimittel-Forschung, 1986
The diuretic, natriuretic and antikaliuretic properties of several straight-chain and branched-chain acidic triamterene derivatives were investigated in male Wistar rats. Among the straight-chain compounds the ether of hydroxytriamterene with five C atoms in the side chain (S3) revealed the maximum effects.

Perfectly Straight Nanowires of Fullerenes Bearing Long Alkyl Chains on Graphite

Journal of the American Chemical Society, 2006
Fullerene derivatives bearing long alkyl chains epitaxially adsorb on the basal plane of graphite forming well-ordered one-dimensional lamellae. Within the lamellae, the C60 moieties are organized in a zigzag-type fashion. The ordering is mainly governed by the substitution pattern and chain length of the alkyl chains.
