Back stress strengthening and strain hardening in gradient structure
We report significant back stress strengthening and strain hardening in gradient structured (GS) interstitial-free (IF) steel. Back stress is long-range stress caused by the pileup of geometrically necessary dislocations (GNDs).

Alkane biosynthesis gene expression and its increased production in recombinant cyanobacteria
The transcription and mRNA structures of the alkane biosynthesis genes ado/aar were analysed in the representative cyanobacteria PCC 6803 and SK1‐2‐1, which produce C17H36 and C15H32, respectively. PCC 6803 transconjugants carrying these genes showed a 1.8‐ to 2.3‐fold increase in C17H36 production.

Straintronics in graphene nanoribbons [PDF]
The interplay between uniaxial strain and charging effects in zigzag graphene nanoribbons (ZGNR) is investigated by using non-equilibrium Green's function formalism. The I-V characteristic curves and especially negative differential resistance (NDR) induced by some quantum selection rules are affected by the type, strength and also direction of the ...

Shear friction capacity of recycled concretes
The aim of this research was to determine the behavior of recycled concrete in response to the phenomenon of shear transfer. To perform it, a conventional control concrete and a concrete with 50% recycled coarse aggregate were designed.

The C. elegans tetraspanin‐7 (tsp‐7) is a homologue of human CD63, which is a negative regulator of autophagy. The C. elegans strain, tm5761, has a dysfunctional (knockout) tsp‐7 gene. When compared to the wild‐type strain, the tm5761 strain shows increased: life‐ and health‐span; thermotolerance, and stress‐induced locomotion.

Band Gap of Strained Graphene Nanoribbons [PDF]
The band structures of strained graphene nanoribbons (GNRs) are examined by a tight binding Hamiltonian that is directly related to the type and strength of strains. Compared to the two-dimensional graphene whose band gap remains close to zero even if a large strain is applied, the band gap of graphene nanoribbon (GNR) is sensitive to both uniaxial and

The tumor microenvironment is a dynamic, multifaceted complex system of interdependent cellular, biochemical, and biophysical components. Three‐dimensional in vitro models of the tumor microenvironment enable a better understanding of these interactions and their impact on cancer progression and therapeutic resistance.

Ab-initio Study of Size and Strain Effects on the Electronic Properties of Si Nanowires [PDF]
We have applied density-functional theory (DFT) based calculations to investigate the size and strain effects on the electronic properties, such as band structures, energy gaps, and effective masses of the electron and the hole, in Si nanowires along the <110> direction with diameters up to 5 nm.
