Strain-induced shift in the elastically soft direction of epitaxially grown fcc metals
The theory of epitaxial strain energy is extended beyond the harmonic approximation to account for large film/substrate lattice mismatch. We find that for fcc noble metals (i) directions and soften under tensile biaxial strain (unlike zincblende ...

This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

Extension, inflation and torsion of a residually-stressed circular cylindrical tube [PDF]
In this paper, we provide a new example of the solution of a finite deformation boundary-value problem for a residually stressed elastic body. Specifically, we analyse the problem of the combined extension, inflation and torsion of a circular cylindrical

In situ molecular organization and heterogeneity of the Legionella Dot/Icm T4SS
We present a nearly complete in situ model of the Legionella Dot/Icm type IV secretion system, revealing its central secretion channel and identifying new components. Using cryo‐electron tomography with AI‐based modeling, our work highlights the structure, variability, and mechanism of this complex nanomachine, advancing understanding of bacterial ...

Distributed sensor placement optimization for computer aided structural health monitoring [PDF]
An optimal sensor placement methodology is implemented and herein proposed for SHM model-assisted design and analysis purposes. The kernel of this approach analysis is a genetic-based algorithm providing the sensor network layout by optimizing the ...

A Hybrid Method for Vibration-Based Bridge Damage Detection
Damage detection algorithms employing the conventional acceleration measurements and the associated modal features may underperform due to the limited number of sensors used in the monitoring and the smoothing effect of spline functions used to increase ...

Surface energy of strained amorphous solids [PDF]
AbstractSurface stress and surface energy are fundamental quantities which characterize the interface between two materials. Although these quantities are identical for interfaces involving only fluids, the Shuttleworth effect demonstrates that this is not the case for most interfaces involving solids, since their surface energies change with strain ...

We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.
