A Novel Method to Describe Large-Range Stress-Strain Relations of Elastic-Plastic Materials Based on Energy Equivalence Principle.

open access: yesMaterials, 2023
Due to the unique structure of tensile sheet specimens with a circular hole (CHS specimen), a novel method is proposed to predict the large-range uniaxial stress-strain relations of elastic-plastic materials analytically. Based on the energy equivalence principle, a load-displacement semi-analytical model of the CHS specimen is proposed.

Effective properties of composite material based on total strain energy equivalence

Composites Part B: Engineering, 2019
The main problem referred in the present research is how to correctly and efficiently predict the averaged effective properties of a composite on the example of an irregular particle-reinforced composite in which the distribution, shape and orientation of particles are fully disordered (chaotic).

Matrix and fibre stress and strain magnification using strain energy equivalence and the Halpin–Tsai equations

Journal of Reinforced Plastics and Composites, 2015
Derivations for the transverse matrix strain magnification and fibre strain reduction, based on the principle of strain energy applied to a representative volume element and using the semi-empirical model of Halpin–Tsai are presented here. The arising values of fibre/matrix strain reductions/magnifications decrease/increase with increasing volume ...

Buckling collapse study for the carcass layer of flexible pipes using a strain energy equivalence method

Ocean Engineering, 2016
When a flexible pipe is subjected to high external hydraulic pressure, the innermost carcass layer serves to resist buckling and collapse. The maximum external pressure that the carcass layer can withstand before buckling collapse must be considered during pipe design. To study this problem, a strain energy equivalence method is proposed to transform a

Collapse Estimation of Interlocked Armour of Flexible Pipe With Strain Energy Equivalence

Volume 3: Pipeline and Riser Technology, 2012
Deepwater environment brings unbonded flexible pipelines with collapse risk of interlocked armours, such as pressure armour and carcass. An effective and accurate prediction for collapse is required in design process. This paper presents a theoretical approach for estimating collapse of the interlocked armours based on strain energy ...

Equivalent and separable strain-energy functions in compressible, finite elasticity

International Journal of Non-Linear Mechanics, 2005
Abstract A material non-uniqueness is identified for isotropic, homogeneous, hyperelastic, compressible materials. This non-uniqueness is a special case of the hyperelastic null Lagrangian. Equivalence classes of strain-energy functions (SEFs) are then obtained.

Compressive Creep of Virgin HDPE Using Equivalent Strain Energy Density Method

Journal of Materials in Civil Engineering, 2010
This paper presents a predictive model for compressive creep behavior of high-density polyethylene (HDPE) commonly used to manufacture polymeric piling and geosynthetics. Accelerated methods to predict the tensile creep of polymers are already available. In this paper, a method to predict the compressive creep of viscoelastic polymers is proposed based

Evaluation of a Strain Energy Equivalence Principle (SEEP)-Based Continuum Damage Model

Key Engineering Materials, 2007
A new continuum damage theory (CDT) has been proposed by Lee et al. (1997) based on the SEEP. The CDT has the apparent advantage over the other related theories because the complete constitutive law can be readily derived by simply replacing the virgin elastic stiffness with the effective orthotropic elastic stiffness obtained by using the proposed ...
