Microglial dynamics and ferroptosis induction in human iPSC‐derived neuron–astrocyte–microglia tri‐cultures

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
A tri‐culture of iPSC‐derived neurons, astrocytes, and microglia treated with ferroptosis inducers as an Induced ferroptosis model was characterized by scRNA‐seq, cell survival, and cytokine release assays. This analysis revealed diverse microglial transcriptomic changes, indicating that the system captures key aspects of the complex cellular ...

Alcohol‐induced altered glycans in human tracheal epithelial cells promote bacterial adhesion

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Alcohol induces altered glycans to promote bacteria adhesion. Heavy alcohol drinking is known to increase the risk of bacterial pneumonia. However, the link between alcohol levels and risk of infection remains underexplored. Recently, we found that alcohol induced α2‐6sialo mucin O‐glycans in human tracheobronchial epithelial cells, which mediated the ...

Nuclear pore links Fob1‐dependent rDNA damage relocation to lifespan control

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Damaged rDNA accumulates at a specific perinuclear interface that couples nucleolar escape with nuclear envelope association. Nuclear pores at this site help inhibit Fob1‐induced rDNA instability. This spatial organization of damage handling supports a functional link between nuclear architecture, rDNA stability, and replicative lifespan in yeast.

Design of Flexible Caliper Pig and Analysis of Gauging Plate Performance of Pipeline

open access: yesShiyou jixie, 2021
The conventional aluminum plate caliper pig cannot detect multiple deformations in the pipeline, and the gauging plate cannot be reused. Therefore, a flexible caliper pig was designed, which replaces the aluminum gauging plate by a hyperelastic ...

Estimating Inducer Blade Damping in Water with On-Blade Strain Measurements [PDF]

open access: yes
This paper describes the testing, methodology, and results for estimating critical damping ratios of inducer blade structural natural frequencies. A sub-scale inducer water flow test was performed with on-blade strain gauge measurements.

Notes on the integration of numerical relativity waveforms

open access: yes, 2011
A primary goal of numerical relativity is to provide estimates of the wave strain, $h$, from strong gravitational wave sources, to be used in detector templates. The simulations, however, typically measure waves in terms of the Weyl curvature component, $

Enhancing Oncological Care for India's Aging Population: Addressing the Complex Needs of Older Adults With Cancer

open access: yesAging and Cancer, EarlyView.
Aging‐associated physiological and molecular alterations pose significant challenges in cancer management among India's elderly. Limited geriatric oncology expertise, financial constraints, and inadequate specialized care exacerbate disparities. Strategic expansion of insurance coverage, integration of palliative care, and infrastructural advancements ...

Re‐Awakening Public Attention to the Silent Pandemic of Cancer Among Older Adults in Low‐ and Middle‐Income Countries

open access: yesAging and Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT As global populations age, cancer is increasingly becoming a leading cause of morbidity and mortality among older adults, particularly in low‐ and middle‐income countries (LMICs). Despite accounting for the majority of new cancer cases and deaths, older individuals remain underrepresented in cancer research, clinical guidelines, and health ...

Semiconductor Strain Gauges [PDF]

open access: yesThe Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 1961
The relatively large piezoresistance coefficients relating resistance change to stress in certain semiconductor single crystals make them potentially attractive as sensing elements for the measurement of strain, force, torque, acceleration, etc. The use of not only longitudinal, but also transverse and shear effects will be illustrated. The response of
