A strain indicator for semiconductor strain gauges
Journal of Physics E: Scientific Instruments, 1977A strain indicator comprising a constant-current source has been designed for use with semiconductor strain gauges. The instrument has provision for measuring a maximum of 1000 microstrain in ten decade ranges. It incorporates facilities for correcting for the spread in gauge resistance and gauge factor.

The electric strain gauge ballistocardiograph
American Heart Journal, 1950Abstract Since the recording of the first ballistocardiogram by Gordon, 1 the recoils of the body from heart movements and circulatory impacts have been studied with various types of apparatus. Horizontal ballistocardiographs in the form of a bed or table have been suspended from the ceiling or some supporting frame-work 1–9 or supported upon steel ...

Abstract Weighing with strain gauges is shown to have some very attractive features. An analysis is given of the limitation of the sensitivity due to various noise sources. It is shown that it is possible to use strain gauge balances somewhat below the milligram region.

Strain distribution in and around strain gauges
Journal of Strain Analysis, 1972The interaction between a strain gauge and its substratum is investigated for the special case of a one-dimensional gauge adhesively bonded to a half-plane. The influence on the strain distribution of the properties of the underlying material, of strain-gauge design, and of adhesive properties is demonstrated by numerical examples.

Gauge fields and strain engineering
2012We discuss the physics of pseudomagnetic field,s which can be induced in graphene by applying strains, and show how they can be used to manipulate electronic transport through graphene heterostructures (strain engineering). We consider strain-induced pseudo-Landau levels, which were observed in graphene, and discuss the related valley quantum Hall ...

This paper describes the acoustic strain gauge and its application to the measurement of surface strains produced both by static and dynamic loading. The apparatus consists of a test gauge, a reference gauge and a control set. The note from a vibrating wire in the test gauge is matched against the note from a similar wire vibrating in the reference ...

The sensitivity of strain gauges
Journal of Applied Physics, 1978The familiar formula for the K factor of strain gauges contains a term which is based on geometrical effects and a term containing the change of resistivity by strain. The latter term can be shown to include a geometrical part too. If this is split off, K becomes independent of Poisson’s ratio and K=2, if the material properties remain unchanged by ...
