Characterization of Defect Distribution in an Additively Manufactured AlSi10Mg as a Function of Processing Parameters and Correlations with Extreme Value Statistics

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Predicting extreme defects in additive manufacturing remains a key challenge limiting its structural reliability. This study proposes a statistical framework that integrates Extreme Value Theory with advanced process indicators to explore defect–process relationships and improve the estimation of critical defect sizes. The approach provides a basis for

Multifractal Characteristics of Gain Structures: A Universal Law of Polycrystalline Strain-Hardening Behaviors

open access: yesFractal and Fractional
The quantitative relationship between material microstructures, such as grain distributions, and the nonlinear strain-hardening behaviors of polycrystalline metals has not yet been completely understood.

Computer program for predicting creep behavior of bodies of revolution [PDF]

open access: yes, 1971
Computer program, CRAB, uses finite-element method to calculate creep behavior and predict steady-state stresses in an arbitrary body of revolution subjected to a time-dependent axisymmetric load.

Experimental Evaluation of 100Cr6 Steel Microindented Surfaces Under Lubricated Nonconformal Point Contacts

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The tribological behavior of 100Cr6 steel spheres textured via Vickers microindentation is evaluated under lubricated sliding by varying both dimple size and density. Fine and dense textures significantly reduce friction across all lubrication regimes, while large dimples increase it.

Effect of strain rate on bake hardening response of BH220 steel

open access: yesEPJ Web of Conferences, 2015
This study aims at understanding the bake hardening ability of ultra low carbon BH220 steel at different strain rates. The as-received material has been pre-strained to four different levels and then deformed in tension under (a) as pre-strained state ...

Nonlinear behavior of shells of revolution under cyclic loading [PDF]

open access: yes
A large deflection elastic-plastic analysis is presented, applicable to orthotropic axisymmetric plates and shells of revolution subjected to monotonic and cyclic loading conditions. The analysis is based on the finite-element method.

Harnessing Fungal Biowelding for Constructing Mycelium‐Engineered Materials

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Mycelium‐bound composites (MBCs) offer low‐carbon alternatives for construction, yet interfacial bonding remains a critical challenge. This review examines fungal biowelding as a biocompatible adhesive, elucidating mycelium‐mediated interfacial mechanisms and their role in material assembly. Strategies to optimize biowelding are discussed, highlighting

Peierls barrier characteristic and anomalous strain hardening provoked by dynamic-strain-aging strengthening in a body-centered-cubic high-entropy alloy

open access: yesMaterials Research Letters, 2019
The temperature effect on the mechanical behavior of the HfNbTaTiZr high entropy alloy (HEA) was investigated at 77–673 K. The decrease of the yield strength with increasing the temperature was mechanistically analyzed by considering contributions from ...

Possible correlation between work-hardening and fatigue-failure [PDF]

open access: yes, 1969
Conceptual theory proposes that cyclic hardening due to non-uniform strain and stress amplitudes during testing, especially during the initial application of stress to a specimen, may correlate positively with the ultimate strength of the specimen under ...

On the Lightweight Potential of Laser Additive Manufactured NiTi Triply Periodic Minimal Sheet Lattices

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study explores the lightweight potential of laser additive‐manufactured NiTi triply periodic minimal surface sheet lattices. It systematically investigates the effects of relative density and unit cell size on surface quality, deformation recovery, compression behavior, and energy absorption.
