The Effect of Combined Tensile-Torsional Loading Path on the Stress/Strain States of Thin-Walled Circular Tubes

open access: yesAdvances in Civil Engineering, 2020
In this paper, an elastoplastic analysis model of thin-walled circular tubes under the combined action of axial force and torque is discussed. Based on the von Mises yield criterion and the assumption of isotropic linear hardening, the methods of stress ...

Prediction of strain localization in nonlinear strain paths

open access: yes, 2021
The simulation of nonlinear strain paths is important both for the design and development of tools for sheet metal forming processes, which can present very complex geometries, as well as for the prediction of failures during the process. Despite the evolution of computational methods, the prediction of ductile failure continues to be a challenge ...

Microstructure‐Controlled Crack Propagation and Fracture Resistance in MoSiBTiC Alloy Revealed by Multiscale Extended Finite Element Method Modeling

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A two‐dimensional multiscale finite element analysis framework was established for the first‐generation MoSiBTiC alloy, and the mechanical and fracture‐related parameters of the constituent phases were calibrated through experiments and simulations. The framework provides a basis for analyzing crack propagation behavior in its complex microstructure ...

Hydrogen‐Assisted Fracture of Iron‐Based Fe–Ni–Al Alloys

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Principal relations and fracture mechanisms of single‐phase and precipitate‐strengthened Fe–Ni–Al alloys subjected to prior electrochemical hydrogen charging are identified. The mechanisms of hydrogen effect on strength and microhardness are discussed, including hydrogen‐induced increase in microhardness and the role of hydrogen in fracture behavior ...

Strain-Enhanced Charge Transfer and Magnetism at a Manganite/Nickelate Interface

open access: yes, 2018
The strain effect on charge transfer in correlated oxide La0.8Sr0.2MnO3/NdNiO3 (LSMO/NNO) heterostructures is investigated. This is achieved by carefully tailoring the strain on the two layers using various substrates. In contrast to bare LSMO films, the

Mechanical Anisotropy Induced by Strain Path Change for AZ31 Mg Alloy Sheet

open access: yesMetals, 2020
The variation of strain paths induces anisotropy during practical sheet forming processes, which is very important for the subsequent processing technology of anisotropic Mg alloys.

A Lightweight Procedural Layer for Hybrid Experimental–Computational Workflows in Materials Science

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
We unveil a prototype hybrid‐workflow framework that fuses automatedcomputation with hands‐on experiments. Built atop pyiron, a lightweight, parameterized layer translates procedure descriptions into executable manual steps, syncing instrument settings, human interventions, and data capture in real‐time today.

Deformation twinning in AISI 316L austenitic stainless steel: role of strain and strain path

open access: yes, 2007
AISI 316L austenitic stainless steel was deformed at different strain and strain paths. The twin boundaries in the deformed microstructure had two possible origins: decay of original annealing twins and generation of deformation twins.

Convenient estimation of elastic, plastic and creep constitutive equations for solder under tensile test of constant strain rate with loading, unloading and reloading paths

open access: yesNihon Kikai Gakkai ronbunshu, 2014
The deformation of solder shows the unique characteristics which differs from one of other engineering materials remarkably, as it is accompanied with the large creep deformation at room temperature. This deformation behaviour appears in a typical stress-

Recycling of NiTi Shape Memory Alloys: Fundamental and Technological Aspects of a Vacuum Induction Melting Processing Route

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The present study investigates recycling of NiTi shape memory alloys via vacuum induction melting. An ingot was synthesized from elemental Ni and Ti and subjected to three subsequent remelting cycles. Remelting increases process durations and impurity levels and adversely affects microstructures and functional properties.
