The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Effect of strain rate on serrated load of indentation in Al-Mg alloy

open access: yesNihon Kikai Gakkai ronbunshu, 2017
Indentation tests are used to determine the local mechanical properties of materials. Previously, the indentation strain rate was correlated with the strain rate in uniaxial tests based on the hardness, which was the obtained load divided by the cross ...

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

Beyond necking - Novel characterisation method to investigate the tensile response of sheet metals at elevated temperatures and constant true strain rates

open access: yesAdvances in Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering
Characterisation of the strain hardening behaviour for metal forming simulations at elevated temperatures still poses a challenge for state of the art characterisation strategies, where often microstructural changes shall be investigated simultaneously ...

Spatial distribution of horizontal seismic strain in the Apennines from historical earthquakes

open access: yesAnnals of Geophysics, 1998
Horizontal principal seismic strain rate axes have been calculated within a regular mesh of triangles covering the Italian peninsula in a time interval of 700 years.

Left ventricular strain and strain rate in a general population [PDF]

open access: yesEuropean Heart Journal, 2008
Strain and strain rate (SR) are measures of deformation that reflect left ventricular (LV) function. To our knowledge, no previous study described these indexes in a general population. We therefore described peak-systolic strain and SR of the LV in the general population and derived diagnostic thresholds for these measurements in a healthy subgroup. In

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

High strain rate effect on tensile ductility and fracture of AM fabricated Inconel 718 with voided microstructures [PDF]

open access: yes, 2021
The paper describes Electromagnetic Ring Expansion Tests (ERET) performed on Laser Melting Powder Bed Fusion (LPBF) Inconel 718 stress relieved test pieces, to establish the effect of a randomly dispersed spherically voided microstructure on tensile ...

The human gut microbiome across the life course

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Despite significant individual variation and continuous change throughout life, the human gut microbiome follows some life stage‐specific trends. This article provides a brief overview of how gut microbiome composition shifts across different phases of life. Created in BioRender. Özkurt, E. (2026) https://BioRender.com/8q4nrnc.
