How many bromeliads are there? History and future perspectives of species scientific discovery in the pineapple family

open access: yesPLANTS, PEOPLE, PLANET, EarlyView.
It remains unclear how many plant species are not yet recorded by science. We illustrated the process by which species of the pineapple family in tropical America have been newly described to science to date, and we estimated how many species may still await scientific discovery in this group.

Identifying biases in the IUCN Red List to set future assessment priorities for vascular plants

open access: yesPLANTS, PEOPLE, PLANET, EarlyView.
The IUCN Red List is the main global authority for determining species extinction risk. For vascular plants, fewer than 22% of all species have been globally assessed. Here, we evaluate whether those species assessed are representative of all known vascular plant species. There are significant biases in the IUCN Red List in terms of the distribution of

Combining Laser‐Induced Edition to Collision‐Induced Sequencing of Digital Oligomers in a Single Gas‐Phase Experiment

open access: yesRapid Communications in Mass Spectrometry, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Rationale To increase the confidentiality level of molecular tags, binary information can be hidden in sequence‐defined oligomers using isobaric monomers including a photo‐sensitive one, which mass can be modified upon light irradiation. Reading such secured data requires light edition prior to MS/MS sequencing, which was investigated here in ...

Cross‐Linking Mass Spectrometry of the Antimicrobial Peptides Magainin 2 and PGLa Reveals Heterodimerization in Micellar Medium

open access: yesRapid Communications in Mass Spectrometry, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Rationale In this study, we applied cross‐linking mass spectrometry (XL‐MS) to characterize the oligomeric states of a PGLa/magainin 2 mixture and gain insight into the heterodimerization previously suggested in the literature. Both peptides have shown a synergistic enhancement of activity when tested in antimicrobial assays; however, the ...
