The effects of freezing and stratification on pecan (Carya illinoinensis) seed germination and seedling growth

open access: yesTechnology in Horticulture
Pecan (Carya illinoinensis) cultivation is crucial for commercial production and relies on selecting rootstocks adapted to local environments. Historically, pecan breeding has prioritized scion improvement over rootstock selection due to propagation ...

The Effects of Some Dormancy Breaking Treatments and Temperature on Seed Vigor of Gum Tragacanth (Astragalus gummifer Labill.)

open access: yesYüzüncü Yıl Üniversitesi Tarim Bilimleri Dergisi, 2022
This research was carried out to determine the effects of germination temperature and 12 dormancy breaking applications on the germination of the seeds of the gum tragacanth (Astragalus gummifer Labill.) bush.

Investigations into stability in the fig/ fig-wasp mutualism [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Fig trees (Ficus, Moraceae) and their pollinating wasps (Chalcidoidea, Agaonidae) are involved in an obligate mutualism where each partner relies on the other in order to reproduce: the pollinating fig wasps are a fig tree’s only pollen disperser ...

Extended Stratification of North American Ginseng Seed

open access: yesJournal of Ginseng Research, 2008
The North American ginseng (Panax quinquefolius L.) seed crop varies from year to year. The ability to hold stratified seed for a year would ensure continuity of seed supply and no interruption in production cycles. Seed drying and rehydration protocols at room temperature (21±2℃) were developed.

Effects of Pre-Stratification Storage Conditions on Black Walnut Seed Post-Stratification Germination Capacity

open access: yesInternational Journal of Fruit Science, 2016
ABSTRACTThe objective of this work was to quantify changes in the germination capacity of Juglans nigra seeds following storage and then artificial stratification. Seeds were stored at 5 and –20 °C under 5% and 14% internal moisture content (IMC) for 0, 8, 10, and 12 months under conditions with oxygen or under vacuum.

Protein Changes during the Stratification of Malus domestica Borkh. Seed [PDF]

open access: yesPlant Physiology, 1983
Apple seeds (Malus domestica Borkh. cv Golden Delicious) were stratified at 5 and 15 degrees C for various lengths, weighed, and soluble protein of axis and cotyledon tissue was analyzed by sodium dodecyl sulfate-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis. Only seeds treated at 5 degrees C germinated; seeds treated at 15 degrees C did not germinate.

Response of Amaranthus retroflexus L. seeds to gibberellic acid, ethylene and abscisic acid depending on duration of stratification and burial

open access: yesPlant growth regulation (Print), 2013
Freshly harvested, dormant seeds of Amaranthus retroflexus were unable to germinate at 25 and 35 °C. To release their dormancy at the above temperatures, the seeds were stratified at a constant temperature (4 °C) under laboratory conditions or at ...

Type 2 Nondeep Physiological Dormancy in Seeds of Fraxinus chinensis subsp. rhynchophylla (Hance) A.E.Murray

open access: yesForests, 2022
Fraxinus chinensis subsp. rhynchophylla (Oleaceae), hereafter F. rhynchophylla, is an important timber species in northeast China; however, little is known about its seed dormancy and germination, which hinders regeneration of the species from seeds for ...

Predictors of response and rational combinations for the novel MCL‐1 inhibitor MIK665 in acute myeloid leukemia

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study characterizes the responses of primary acute myeloid leukemia (AML) patient samples to the MCL‐1 inhibitor MIK665. The results revealed that monocytic differentiation is associated with MIK665 sensitivity. Conversely, elevated ABCB1 expression is a potential biomarker of resistance to the treatment, which can be overcome by the combination ...

Improvement of seed germination of Fagus orientalis Lipsky [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
This thesis was seeking two main approaches for improvement of seed germination of oriental beech, a timber producing species in Hyrcanian forests in northern Iran. Germination behavior of beechnuts was enhanced either by decreasing the dormancy breakage
