Degradation mechanism of the von Willebrand factor A2 domain by nattokinase
Nattokinase, a natto‐derived protease, exhibits potent antithrombotic effects. This study demonstrates that nattokinase directly cleaves the von Willebrand factor (vWF) A2 domain in vitro. Unlike the native regulator ADAMTS13, nattokinase degrades folded vWF independently of shear stress.

Instability of stratified two-fluid flow in a Venturi flow meter
In this dissertation the subject of stability of stratified two-fluid flows in an inclined channel is examined and modelled using classical fluid dynamics.

Experiments on layer formation in stratified shear flow
We discuss the experimental methodology and present the results of several experiments on the onset and growth of instabilities in stratified shear flow.

An unexpected alternative interaction site for ethyl viologen was identified in formate dehydrogenase 1 from Methylorubrum extorquens. Combined mutagenesis, kinetic analysis, and docking revealed that aromatic residues near an iron–sulfur cluster enable flavin mononucleotide‐independent electron transfer, offering a framework for engineering improved ...

On the hydrostatic approximation in rotating stratified flow [PDF]
Hydrostatic models were and still are the workhorses for realistic simulations of ocean dynamics, especially for climate applications. Introducing a Fourier space projection method and using the Heisenberg–Gabor limit, a formalism is developed to ...

Design and analysis strategies for robust microbiome ageing research
The gut microbiome changes with age and associates with age‐related morbidity and mortality, establishing it as a potential biomarker and intervention target for ageing. Realising this potential requires methodological rigour, yet distinguishing biological signals from methodological artefacts remains challenging across cohorts. This review provides an

Viscous-Inviscid Flow Interaction in Stratified Flow Over a Barrier [PDF]
The gross effect of boundary layer separation on the flow field of stratified flow over a barrier was studied by means of the integral method of Lees and Reeves.

Reconstructing enzyme evolution by protein engineering
Natural enzyme evolution can be retraced by protein engineering methods such as directed evolution, rational design, and ancestral sequence reconstruction. These approaches reveal how enzymes emerged from ligand‐binding scaffolds, developed varying substrate preferences, formed oligomeric complexes, adapted to environmental changes, and evolved novel ...

Studies of Wavy Stratified and Stratified/Atomization Gas-Liquid Flow [PDF]
Studies of wavy stratified and stratified/atomization two-phase flow in horizontal pipes are outlined. Notable features of this flow regime include the appearance of disturbance waves, the atomization onset and the drastic change of the gas/liquid ...
