Hyporheic flows in stratified beds
Water Resources Research, 2008Surface‐subsurface exchange fluxes are receiving increasing interest because of their importance in the fate of contaminants, nutrients, and other ecologically relevant substances in a variety of aquatic systems. Solutions have previously been developed for pore water flows induced by geometrical irregularities such as bed forms for the cases of ...

Mathematical modeling of Stratified flows
2007The present Chapter of the lecture notes is divided into three different sections. The first section is devoted to the description of the equations governing a stratified flow field. The Reynolds averaged equations are derived together with the transport equations for the mean and turbulent kinetic energies.

Interfacial behaviour in stratified and stratifying annular flows
2013This thesis describes work which was focused on stratifying annular flow in horizontal tubes. Stratifying-annular flows in horizontal tubes are characterized by the tube being wetted with liquid over its whole periphery but with a tendency for more of the liquid to be present in the layer at the bottom of the tube.

Tomographic reconstruction of stratified fluid flow
IEEE Transactions on Ultrasonics, Ferroelectrics and Frequency Control, 1993A method for imaging a moving fluid is proposed and evaluated by numerical simulation. A cross-section of a three-dimensional fluid is probed by high-frequency acoustic waves from several different directions. Assuming straight-ray geometric acoustics, the time of flight depends on both the scaler sound speed and the vector fluid velocity.

Wind Profile in Thermally Stratified Flow
Nature, 1960THE variation of horizontal wind-speed u with height z in the air flowing over uniform ground is, in conditions of neutral equilibrium, well represented by the expression : where u * is the ‘friction velocity’, defined as u *2 = τ/ρ, τ being the horizontal shearing stress caused ...
