The Problem of Dimensionality in Stratified Sampling

Stratified sampling is perhaps the most natural of the variance reduction techniques. However its use is often frustrated by the high dimensionality of the sample space. This paper investigates the difficulty and suggests a basic sampling scheme for use in such problems.

A Stratified Sampling Technique for an Ellipse

Abstract We present an efficient stratified sampling technique for an ellipse. Our technique provides extensions of pre vious work for sampling a disk with lowdistortion; it works for both polar and concentric maps between a square and an ellipse.
