Carbon sequestration in European soils through straw incorporation: Limitations and alternatives
We compared alternate uses of cereal straw (4.25t dry matter ha(-1) containing 1.7t carbon (C)) for their effectiveness in relation to climate change mitigation. The scenarios were (1) incorporation into soil to increase soil organic carbon (SOC) content ("carbon sequestration") and (2) combustion to generate electricity.

Incorporation of natural antioxidants from rice straw into renewable starch films
This study showed that rice straw waste is a valuable source for the extraction of water-soluble phenolic compounds that can be successfully incorporated into bioactive starch-based films. The major phenolic compounds in the extract were identified as ferulic, p-coumaric and protocatechuic acid using UHPLC-MS.

Effect of different straw management practices on yields of continuous spring barely
Field experiments were conducted in the maize-growing region on heavy gleic fluvisol from 1974 to 2000. Three variants of straw management (straw harvested, incorporated into soil and burned), two variants of soil tillage (conventional plough tillage to ...

Soil pH Amelioration Synergizes Carbon Accrual with Yield Gains Under Organic Substitution
Soil pH shifts towards neutrality in both acidic and alkaline soils under organic substitution. A global synthesis links pH amelioration to soil organic carbon accrual through enhanced microbial biomass after accounting for added organic carbon and its interaction with pH. This pH amelioration‐shared soil organic carbon accrual accounts for 5.1–8.6% of
