Stray load losses in induction motors: a challenge to academia
Power Engineering Journal, 1997In the February 1997 issue of Power Engineering Journal, Prof. Stephen Williamson published a short article entitled `Stray losses-a residue of ignorance'. In a paper by the author published at the Lisbon Conference on 'Energy efficiency improvements in electric motors and drives' in October 1996, it was concluded that the subject of stray load losses ...

Modelling of Stray-Load Loss for Medium Power Induction Motors
IECON 2018 - 44th Annual Conference of the IEEE Industrial Electronics Society, 2018In recent years there has been a thrust towards developing high efficiency motors for industrial applications. To design a high efficiency motor, it is necessary to develop models that can estimate the losses in the motor. One of the losses that is difficult to estimate is stray losses.

Stray Inductance-Based Current Sensing Considering Temperature-Dependent DCR Effect
2020 IEEE Energy Conversion Congress and Exposition (ECCE), 2020This paper proposes a stray inductance-based current sensing method with a method to reduce the temperature-dependent DCR effect on the sensing accuracy. In the power module, there are a Kelvin pin and a power source pin which can be used to measure the switching current in the power loop.

Planar busbar optimization regarding current sharing and stray inductance minimization
2005 European Conference on Power Electronics and Applications, 2005The design of planar busbar as a must part of any present high power converter is particularly fine due to all electromagnetic phenomena which can not be easily predicted with appropriate simulation means. Among the numerous constraints which apply to this component, current sharing between all paralleled components (power IGBT modules and capacitors ...

STRAY LOSSES IN A SINGLE‐SIDED LINEAR INDUCTION MOTOR
COMPEL - The international journal for computation and mathematics in electrical and electronic engineering, 1992The paper deals with the method of the stray losses calculation in single‐sided linear induction motors. The stray losses produced by the higher space harmonics of the primary winding MMF and by the primary slots have been discussed.

Thermal effects of stray load losses in induction machines
Conference Record of the 1999 IEEE Industry Applications Conference. Thirty-Forth IAS Annual Meeting (Cat. No.99CH36370), 2000Additional heat produced in induction machines due to stray load losses could influence the plant rating, winding insulation design, operating limit and the machine protection design. Quantifying this additional heat and stray load losses accurately and, hence, investigating the extent of some of these influences are the concerns of this paper.

Stray inductance estimation with detailed model of the IGBT module
2013 15th European Conference on Power Electronics and Applications (EPE), 2013Stray inductances cause various problems in a power inverter and should be appraised and minimized at an early design stage to avoid later required countermeasures and redesign after the device prototype has been built. The stray inductances of the commutation loops of an Active Neutral Point Clamped (ANPC) inverter are estimated in this paper ...

Stray Losses in Induction Machines: Part II, Calculation and Reduction
IEEE Power Engineering Review, 1985The definition, origin and measurement of stray load losses in induction machines have already been addressed in a companion paper. This paper completes the study by examining the mechanisms for prediction of those losses as well as some techniques for reduction. It also suggests some directions for future work.

Measurement of stray load losses in squirrel-cage induction motors
Electronics and Power, 1964The paper with the above title was published in the October 1964 Proceedings. It will be read at a meeting of the Power Division on the 2nd December 1964 at Savoy Place in conjunction with two other papers. Separate copies are available, free of charge if called for at Savoy Place before the meeting, or 2s. by post.
