Suppression of energetic electron transport in flares by double layers

open access: yes, 2012
During flares and coronal mass ejections, energetic electrons from coronal sources typically have very long lifetimes compared to the transit times across the systems, suggesting confinement in the source region.

Evaluating Bicarbonate Electrolyzer Configurations for Energy‐Efficient Formate Production

open access: yesAdvanced Sustainable Systems, EarlyView.
Reactive carbon capture (RCC) with bicarbonate electrolyzers (BEs) offers an efficient alternative to gas‐fed CO2 electrolyzers by eliminating regeneration and pressurization steps. This study optimizes BE configurations and compares RCC chains to gas‐fed carbon chains for formate production.

Particle Acceleration in Relativistic Jets due to Weibel Instability

open access: yes, 2003
Shock acceleration is an ubiquitous phenomenon in astrophysical plasmas. Plasma waves and their associated instabilities (e.g., the Buneman instability, two-streaming instability, and the Weibel instability) created in the shocks are responsible for ...

BioCNTs Mediated Delivery of Systemically Mobile Small RNAs via Leaf Spray to Control Both Tomato DNA and RNA Viruses

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A carbon nanotube‐based biopesticide system (BioCNTs) enables efficient delivery and systemic movement of RNAi molecules to control major tomato viruses. By integrating shRNA and tRNA‐like structures (TLS) with BioCNTs, this green and scalable approach achieves long‐term silencing and high antiviral efficacy through simple foliar spraying.

Modeling the Saturation of the Bell Instability Using Hybrid Simulations

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
The nonresonant streaming instability (Bell instability) plays a pivotal role in the acceleration and confinement of cosmic rays (CRs), yet the exact mechanism responsible for its saturation and the magnitude of the final amplified magnetic field have ...

Self-induced flavor instabilities of a dense neutrino stream in a two-dimensional model

open access: yes, 2015
We consider a simplifed model for self-induced flavor conversions of a dense neutrino gas in two dimensions, showing new solutions that spontaneously break the spatial symmetries of the initial conditions.

Ecosystem‐Centered Robot Design: Toward Ecoresorbable Sustainability Robots (ESRs)

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Robots exploring natural ecosystems can support monitoring and conservation, but must adopt ecosystem‐centered design to avoid pollution, waste, and damage. This review proposes guidelines for co‐designing ecoresorbable sustainability robots (ESRs), uniting materials, robotics, and ecological contexts in a single framework.

Streaming Instabilities in Accreting Protoplanetary Disks: A Parameter Study

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
The streaming instability (SI) is currently the leading candidate for triggering planetesimal formation in protoplanetary disks. Recently, a novel variation, the “azimuthal-drift” streaming instability (AdSI), was discovered in disks exhibiting laminar ...
