Comparative Study of Experimental Methods for Measuring Thermal Properties of 100Cr6 Steel Powders

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study investigates the thermal properties of 100Cr6 steel in both bulk and powder forms. Measuring the very low thermal conductivity typically exhibited by powders poses significant challenges. To address this, two novel measurement techniques—temperature gradient and finite laser pulse response—are introduced and evaluated by comparison with the ...

Exploring Dipolar Dynamics and Ionic Transport in Metal‐Organic Frameworks: Experimental and Theoretical Insights

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
In this study, the interplay of dipolar dynamics and ionic charge transport in MOF compounds is investigated. Synthesizing the novel structure CFA‐25 with integrated freely rotating dipolar groups, local and macroscopic effects, including interactions with Cs cations are explored.

Bacterial diversity differences along an epigenic cave stream reveal evidence of community dynamics, succession, and stability

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2015
Unchanging physicochemical conditions and nutrient sources over long periods of time in cave and karst subsurface habitats, particularly aquifers, can support stable ecosystems, termed autochthonous microbial endokarst communities (AMEC).

Hydrogel‐Based Photothermal‐Catalytic Membrane for Efficient Cogeneration of Freshwater and Hydrogen in Membrane Distillation System

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This work presents an overview of the PTC‐VMD system for water‐hydrogen co‐generation. a) Illustration of the hydrogel‐based PTC membrane and the co‐generation of water and hydrogen. b) Structure of the PTC‐VMD system and the functions of each component layer.

Eclipse Mapping of the Accretion Stream in UZ Fornacis [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 1999
We present a new method to map the surface brightness of the accretion streams in AM Herculis systems from observed light curves. Extensive tests of the algorithm show that it reliably reproduces the intensity distribution of the stream for data with a signal-to-noise ratio >5.

Material Composition Gradient Controls the Autonomous Opening of Banksia Seed Pods in Fire‐Prone Habitats

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The seed pod valves of Australian Banksia attenuata plants are not simply bi‐layers which bend when dry. These experiments and models reveal complex mechanics, which allow seed release only after several steps of seed pod opening. Stiffness gradients prevent delamination of the valves during loading, and a shape‐memory function protects the seeds ...

A remark on utility streams [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2007
We consider arbitrarily long, but finite utility streams, and some appropriate axioms.

The Flow of Streams [PDF]

open access: yesNature, 1884
THE observations made by Mr. Maw on a stream flowing into the Lake of Thun are an extremely interesting example of wellknown hydraulic laws. It would be well, however, if he would tell us what was the depth of the water; from the observed phenomena I presume it was small. Mr. Smith's very ingenious mode of practically showing the different strengths of
